New Complete Feeling Tight? It May Just Need a Quick Adjustment.

Some new skateboard bearings can feel slightly resistant straight out of the box.

CAUSE 1: FACTORY LUBRICANT
New bearings come pre-lubricated to protect them and keep them running smoothly. On some bearings, this lubricant can create a little extra resistance before it has evenly distributed through the bearing.

THE FIX

✅ Ride the board and allow the bearings time to bed in.
✅ The lubricant will distribute as the wheels rotate.
✅ After a few sessions, the bearings may begin to roll more freely.

The bearings are breaking in—not becoming loose.

CAUSE 2: AXLE NUTS ARE TOO TIGHT

Complete skateboards are assembled before shipping, and the axle nuts may occasionally be tightened enough to place pressure on the bearings.

A quick check with a skate tool can help:

🔧 Spin each wheel by hand.
🔧 If a wheel feels restricted, loosen the axle nut by a very small amount.
🔧 The wheel should spin freely with only minimal side-to-side movement.
🔧 Do not loosen it so far that the wheel rattles on the axle.

The important thing to remember is that bearings break in—they do not simply become loose.

⚠️ Avoid spraying bearings with WD-40 or removing their factory lubricant unnecessarily.

🚨 Confused about the new Queensland e-scooter laws? Let’s clear it up.

From 1 July 2026, Queensland introduced new rules around e-scooters and personal mobility devices, and we know this has left a lot of riders wondering: “Is my scooter still legal?”

At Urban Wheelz, all electric scooters we sell are supplied in a speed-limited configuration, with a maximum motor-propelled speed of 25 km/h.

This has been our standard practice even before the new laws came into effect.

That means if your scooter was purchased from Urban Wheelz and remains in its original 25 km/h limited configuration, it is set up for Queensland public-use compliance, provided it is ridden in accordance with the current road rules.

Riders still need to follow the rules, including:
✅ 25 km/h maximum where permitted
✅ 12 km/h on footpaths
✅ 12 km/h when passing pedestrians on shared paths
✅ Helmet use
✅ Riding only where e-scooters are permitted

If a scooter’s settings are manually changed to allow speeds above 25 km/h, it may no longer be compliant for public use.
