Exercise is proven time and time again to be a positive influence in our life,
from preventing preventable sicknesses like cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes and so on.

And according to the government, the number reason for exercise through lockdown was for our mental well being.

Questions you should ask yourself,
When I retire, what sort of life do I want?
Do I want to be sick, have my children look after me?
Spend my retirement fund and time on medications and doctors appointments?
Be limited to the types of activity I want to do due to illness?

Or
Do I want to move through life with ease and grace,
Enjoy my later years of life,
Be a part of the family, and not just a spectator?

Movement is life, fitness is the answer.

Get off the couch, get your heart racing and move!
Then you can binge watch whatever we are watching on TV these days with cream filled donuts.

Move first

SEQ fitness update.
3 day lockdown.
Stay safe.
Wash your hands

you may take your mask off for strenuous exercise and then put it back on as soon as you have completed your physical workout.

We've got this guys

Update for the following 11 local government areas: Brisbane, Ipswich, Logan City, Moreton Bay, Redlands, Sunshine Coast, Noosa, Somerset, Lockyer Valley, Scenic Rim and Gold Coast 📢

We have been receiving an influx of questions regarding exemptions for mask wearing during strenuous exercise. Whilst engaging in strenuous exercise (indoors & outdoors) masks do not need to be worn. However, once strenuous exercise has ceased masks need to be placed back on.

Public Health Order:
Section 24:) A person mentioned in paragraph 23 must:
a.) carry a face mask at all times;
b.) and wear a face mask covering the nose and mouth at all times if they are in an indoor space or an outdoor space

Section 25:) The requirements under paragraph 24 do not apply:
r.) to a person engaged in strenuous physical exercise; Example – exercise in or above the aerobic zone including high-intensity interval training, cycling, running.

s.) to a person for whom wearing a face mask would create any other serious risk to that person’s life or health and safety, including if determined through work Occupational Health and Safety guidelines; Example – a person who is swimming in an indoor pool

Section 26.) A person who removes their face mask under paragraph 24 must resume wearing the face mask as soon as practicable after the circumstance ends.

Active recovery

Still moving, just not at 100% of maximal effort.

Find an activities that keep the body and mind moving, while not pushing it to its limits.

Walking, yoga, long slow intervals of consistent movement, or even reading a trashy magazine.

Why,
Because you can't perform at 100% all the time.
Recovery allows for adaptations to muscles and nerves so your next bout of 100% effort will be fitter, faster, stronger and more effective.

Peace, love, health and happiness

Victoria’s $500 million fitness and exercise industry that comprises more than 1,500 gyms, health clubs, and Yoga and Pilates studios and employs more than 40,000 Victorians have been crippled by the fourth lockdown with losses already in excess of $10 million.

Fitness Australia, the sector’s peak association, said the current stage three seven-day lockdown was already going to cost millions of dollars but warned that any extension of the lockdown would likely see many businesses forced to shut permanently.

This is the most amazing Jacqui

Jacqui joined the gym I work out of as a foundation member. In these 2.5 years she has committed herself to the gym almost everyday.

Exercise and being healthy is not new to Jacqui. Throughout her time she has lead a very high profile life, changed the lives of countless people through community development and humanitarian programs around the world. She is highly intelligent and well respected among her peers.

Now in her retirement phase, she has found a love and community of people within the gym. You'll see her there everyday, well before the sun comes up.

When I met Jacqui, like most people in retirement, she had body disfunction through most of her joints, bad hips, knees and shoulders. Through gentle movement, strength and stretch programs we have all but eliminated her pains.

Then the gym throws a fitness challenge her way....

Well, this lady shined. She set targets that seemed unattainable to most people. And many people tried to keep up. But Jacqui dug her boots in and was determined to win. Which she did. Over 9 weeks she smashed her fitness, tried new exercises and found a love for the sprint bikes.

Jacqui won, beating all the young guns to earn top place. Her strength and fitness is on top form. In the 2.5 years of working with her she has dropped near 30kg and is under 100kgs for the first time in a very long time.

Proving that age and retirement doesn't mean you slow down.

I say to people all the time,

When I grow up, I want to be like Jacqui, spend my days in a caring gym community, then follow a path of craft and special interests I have no time for when family and career are more important.

Thank you for being you, and proving age has no barriers.

Sunday Someone

Meet this chick, Tina.

She came to me 3 years ago, with physical limitations that didn't align with her goals and personal values of wanting to be fit and healthy.
The pain was so bad, her go to was prescribed pain relief, comfort food and the couch.

This behavior saw her gain a lot of weight, which put pressure on the broken bits, which caused more pain, which turned a very vicious circle.

Physical pain creates an awful lot of stress on the body, which, in my own personal experience has lead to some seriously dark, sad places.

When I met Tina, this is where she was.

What Tina got from me was more than exercise solutions. She found someone who had lived her story.

Through movement we change the boundaries of how we feel about ourself. Tina is challenged to move her body beyond what her brain believes capable, without causing more damage to the broken bits.

Growth happens when you are challenged. The body becomes addicted to the new found expression of itself.

Today, Tina is putting herself out there. She is taking control of her mental well-being.
She is socialising, joining fitness endeavours, listening to her body with a positive mindset.
Her physical broken bits are still there. That won't go away.

The change in Tina that I am most proud of, is she is undertaking study.
She is going back to school to learn about human behaviour, mental health and social support.
These skills are what she needed during her dark times. She is taking the bull by the horn, and formalising her skills and passion, to be the person she was looking for, for so many others.

Too powerful, and totally inspired by you.
Proud to be part of your story.

The sign of a good coach

A good coach is the one behind you, not in front
They are there to support you, to guide you, to be your champion.
When you need a push, they are there. When you need to be caught, they are there.

Right behind you.

Does your coach have the ability to drop their ego to support you?

You matter. You pay the coach for your personal or professional development, not for them to showboat their skills.

The best coaches are the ones that pay for their own coach that supports them.
