6:10am I woke without an alarm.
My new habit, to check the wind direction before messaging Odette for a bay swim.
‘Is SW ok’ I ask my love. ‘There will be a little ripple, but the wind is light as it’s early.’
Odette has beat me to the ‘Morning!’ text…
Friends who are up at silly hours are my people… We are both up for giving it a go.
So I roll out of bed, not giving much thought to the sharks today, thanks to day four of my cycle and the sheer optimism it brings!
I walk towards the surf club, the sun already blistering at 26 degrees, hopeful that the ocean gods are gentle on us today…
The bay is flat with the tiniest little ripple…
As I turn the corner, into Odette’s open arms of willingness, we chat about our shared need of daily movement in order to function well in this world. The walk up the beach is always a mix of business check ins, cycle updates, and gratitude lists for the even smallest of thing, the other cheering on every minuscule win we can find on the harder days when you have to dig deep.
There’s an unusual amount of fishy action on show today, all different varieties, the ocean floor textured slightly different to last time, my heart, grateful for the oceans ever changing ways, helping me to embrace the joy and surprise element of change.
Odette and I intermittently stop to point out fish or to remind one another they are safe. I put my head back into the lucrative fish show, and with each stroke, ask for guidance, gentleness and ease for the week ahead. Always, always ask for help I remind myself! 🩵 The ocean always has messages for you, if you’re willing to ask.
