Completed another 8 wk Self Defence Program, second year running in Irene McCormack Catholic College. That's 180 students over 2 years with the knowledge of something that could help them in a bad situation. Well done to Rebecca Hall who was a great help and inspiration.

WHAT IS SELF DEFENCE?

Self defence is used in situations to defend yourself and/or others against attack and should never be misused.

We enforce that the first rule is always to avoid confrontation if at all possible. This means making wise choices like taking a longer, well it route home instead of a dark short cut and walking away from an argument before it escalates.

If you are in a situation where attack is imminent, the first thing to do, if possible, is run and/or scream bringing attention to the attacker. Also let your attacker know that you are not a threat by holding your hands up, palms open protecting your yourself. This will also be visible on any CCTV that is around.

Looking forward to working with the Year 10 students at Irene McCormack Catholic College for term 3.

I firmly believe that giving students the opportunity to learn self defence in school is vital so they have the knowledge and skills to help them in a confrontational situation. These skills will equip them for life and especially at an age when they are spending more and more time away from their parents.

The program ran extremely well last year, really engaging the students and I am looking forward to another productive program.
