𝗙𝘂𝗹𝗹 𝗖𝗶𝗿𝗰𝗹𝗲

This week is quite a special one for me. I’m teaching at the same location where I first learnt yoga, some 30 years ago!

𝟯𝟬 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀!

Think of everything that’s happened in the last 30 years.

Think of how you’ve grown.
How your body has changed.
Your mind has changed.
Your wisdom.
Your practice.

𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲.

And then there is that part of you that has never changed.
That part of you that has stayed the same.
Quietly witnessing, the whole time.

Connect with that part of you, my friends, because that is yoga.

𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗮𝗱 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲.

That’s the idea behind 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵:
- supporting people to stay well.
- reducing the risk of illness and injury.
- creating healthier and happier communities.

The WA Government is developing its first 𝘗𝘳𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘏𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘵𝘩 𝘚𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘨𝘺.

This is an opportunity for all of us to have a say about what really helps people live healthier lives.

What do you think should be prioritised?
- Movement and physical activity?
- Mental and emotional wellbeing?
- Access to health education?
- Supporting healthy ageing?
- Stronger community connections?

Our voices matter, especially because we live in a regional community.

𝗜 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗱 𝗺𝘆 𝗙𝗶𝘁𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝘆! 🎉

I’m so excited to be commencing our 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵 & 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗶𝗹𝗼𝘁 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺 next week! 🙌💪

For years I’ve been incorporating progressive loading using body weight and gravity into our yoga classes.

More recently, I’ve added weight training to my own home practice. It has helped immensely with working through chronic pain, building stronger, more resilient tissues, and supporting long-term function.

My recent menopause study explored how strength and resistance training is one of the most effective physical interventions for helping counter the loss of bone density, muscle mass and metabolic efficiency associated with declining oestrogen.

The combination of yoga with strength and resistance training is the most complementary pairing of modalities I’ve come across.

It’s through both personal practice and study that I’ve been inspired to introduce this new offering to KatieYoga as part of our continuing evolution.

𝗛𝗮𝗽𝗽𝘆 𝟭𝟮𝘁𝗵 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗬𝗼𝗴𝗮 🧘‍♀️

This year’s theme is 𝗬𝗼𝗴𝗮 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝘆 𝗔𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴.

I wasn’t aware of this year’s theme until today, but it feels like a beautiful synchronicity with where KatieYoga is heading.

Our Menopause Series, for example, focuses on providing women with evidence-based strategies to enhance quality of life, health, and longevity well beyond menopause.

We also have some exciting new classes coming soon that integrate this wisdom, and support musculoskeletal health and function in different ways, helping us age with strength, confidence, and grace.

Mindset is key. Aging offers an opportunity to reflect on what matters most, reassess our priorities, and invest in our health and wellbeing so we can make the most of the years ahead.

Yoga provides an enriching philosophy that helps us understand who we are, connect with what is important, and create a stable foundation from which we can thrive throughout every stage of life.

As the Bhagavad Gita states: “Yoga is skill in action.”
