Yesterday saw the 2026 6-8’s Awards upstairs at the Stadium and our Green Shirt umpires acknowledged.

🏆 NEW SOUTH WEST SPORTS AWARDS LAUNCHED

Bunbury and Busselton are joining forces to launch the new South West Sports Awards, combining their former local sporting awards into one regional event.

The awards will recognise athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers, clubs and programs from across the South West, reflecting the way sporting communities already operate across council boundaries.

The inaugural awards will be held at Mantra Bunbury Lighthouse on November 14, with Busselton to host the event at Saltwater in 2027.

Nominations open September 1 across eight categories, including Junior Sports Award, Para-Athlete of the Year, Team and Club of the Year, Coach and Official of the Year, Service to Sport – Volunteering, and Event/Program of the Year.

The night will culminate with the AJ (Tood) Buswell South Western Times Sports Star of the Year.

KEEPING OUR HOCKEY FUTURE BRIGHT 🏑

Last Tuesday, Busselton Hockey had the amazing opportunity to welcome Steph Andrews down to the Busselton Hockey Stadium to run a skill-based clinic with some of our talented local hockey athletes!

Having someone with Steph’s experience and knowledge on the turf was such a great experience. Steph has coached at some of the highest levels of hockey, including working with Field Hockey Canada, the Hockeyroos and the Western Australian Institute of Sport (WAIS), where she has played a huge role in developing the next generation of talented hockey players.

From a player’s perspective, one of the biggest things they took away from the clinic was just how important the fundamentals of hockey really are. Steph showed everyone that skills like passing, receiving, leading, body position and ball control might seem simple, but getting those basics right is what allows you to become a better and more confident player.

It was amazing being able to learn from someone who has worked with elite athletes and to have her share her knowledge with players/coaches here in Busselton. She made the session challenging, fun and something we will definitely remember.

A huge THANK YOU to Steph from all of us at Busselton Hockey. We are so grateful for the time, knowledge and encouragement you gave to our athletes.

Opportunities like this are a fantastic way for our players to develop their skills, build confidence and be inspired to keep striving for more!

We can’t wait to have you back in Busselton again soon!
