South Australian State Sporting Clays Championship
On the 22nd and 23rd of August, 103 members of Sporting Clays Australia gathered to compete in the South Australian State Championship. Competitors travelled from across South Australia and Victoria, arriving on a chilly winter's morning ready to battle it out for State Championship honours. The event was proudly supported by our generous sponsors: Adelaide Excavation Service, Hall & Baum Plumbing, Torresan Estate, Joe's Quality Country Kitchens, Vickery Brothers, Mount Gambier Offroad Centre, Auldec Solutions, Blue City Motorcycles, Bronze Wing Western AG, Flemo's Ammo and McBride.
Despite the cold conditions, spirits were high as shooters took to the course for what promised to be a highly competitive weekend of Sporting Clays. Throughout the weekend, members were often left wondering how they had missed a particular target, with some of the presentations proving both challenging and unforgiving.
With competitors representing a wide range of grades and experience levels, the championship brought together some of the region's best shooters, all eager to test their skills and compete for the coveted State titles.
At the conclusion of the main event, a thrilling 25-target shoot-off was required to decide the championship. Jamie Dunn emerged victorious, defeating last year's champion, Jeremy Kent, to claim the South Australian State Championship title for 2026.
Congratulations to Jimmy Papaioannoe, the winner of the South Australian State Junior Champion.
Finally, congratulations to Mr. Joe Densley, who won the trophy for the highest aggregate across all six qualifying events.
Congratulations also go to the following members who will represent South Australia at the National Championships: Zack Button (Open), Nicholas Bologiannis (Open), Jimmy Papaioannou (Junior), Joe Densley (Open), Craig Sheele (Vets), Jannette Densley (Lady), Aiden Salmeron (Open) and Dan Torresan (Reserve). We wish them all the very best as they proudly represent South Australia at the Nationals.
All in all, the weekend proved to be a great success and was enjoyed by all competitors, win or lose. The championship was a fitting celebration of Sporting Clays, bringing together competitors from across the region for a weekend of challenging targets, friendly competition and great camaraderie.

South East Field and Game Hosts July Sporting Clays Event Ahead of State Championships

South East Field and Game Association Inc held its monthly 75 target Sporting Clays competition on Sunday, 26 July 2026, with 47 competitors braving a damp Mount Gambier morning to take part. The event was proudly supported by Pick Ave Deli and Bakery, Russell Industries, Mount Gambier Rural Supplies, Fennell Forestry, and High Gun sponsor - Flemo’s Ammo.
The day began under damp and chilly conditions, but as the shoot progressed the weather gradually improved — though the cold never fully lifted. Competitors were met with a well-balanced course offering targets suited to all grades, from AA through to C Grade. A few presentations proved particularly testing, with even experienced AA shooters finding themselves challenged by the clever target setting.
Jeremy Kent delivered the standout performance of the day, securing High Gun honours with an exceptional 73/75. His final 50 targets were shot clean, a flawless run that impressed all in attendance.
While the competition was fiercely contested, the most important aspect of the day was the enjoyment shared among shooters. The friendly atmosphere, supportive spirit, and plenty of laughs ensured that fun remained at the heart of the event — a hallmark of South East Field and Game culture.
Once the shooting concluded, members gathered in the clubrooms where the friendly rivalry continued in the form of post event banter. Stories were exchanged, theories debated, and a few shooters were left pondering how certain targets managed to slip past them.
The Association extends its sincere thanks to all sponsors whose ongoing support makes these events possible. Without their contribution, running enjoyable and successful competitions would be significantly more challenging.
Results for the July event can be viewed online, and a link will be provided for the public to access the full scoreboard once published.
Looking ahead, South East Field and Game will host the South Australian State Championship on 22–23 August 2026, with competitors attending from across South Australia as well as a contingent travelling from Victoria. Preparations are well underway for what promises to be one of the major highlights of the annual shooting calendar.
