year 11 outdoor Ed Wallpolla creek canoe trip. Started our 53km journey at the lock 9 boat ramp where vibes were high and the boys were keen. Paddled up stream until we hit the mouth of the creeks. Kept left down mullroo where it wasn’t long before we seen a massive canoe tree standing in the water. Took our time (as we had plenty of it) enjoying the scenery with plenty of jokes. Found camp after 18km and settled in for the night. Woke up on the second day and aimed for the river. Found a little creek and entered the river where we were greeted by a wedge tailed eagle. Seen some nice cliffs and then after 10km entered moorna creek. The boys were loving navigating though the fallen trees. Finally found camp after 20km and got a fire started straight away. Spent the rest of the night eating and laughing. The last day was a slog having to portage our boats 5 times before we made it back to the boat ramp after 15km. Great effort from the boys, was a pleasure as always!!

Moorna Creek Loop ✅

A great little overnight canoe loop that I recently completed. Starting at the boat ramp near Lock 9 Lodge and had short upstream paddle to the junction of Mullaroo and Wallpolla Creek. Stayed left and made my way along Mullaroo, enjoying the birdlife and the acient red gums before returning back onto Wallpolla Creek for a few kilometres.

Not long after, I reached a narrow channel known as Moorna Creek. This section was tight and technical with lots of navigating, ducking, and pulling myself under and through fallen trees and debris, luckily with only one portage. Even passed under a few historic bridges before eventually returning back to the Murray River, around 15 km from where I started.

From there, I paddled downstream until I found a good spot to camp for the night—25 km done for day one.

The next morning was a cruisy 10.5 km paddle back. I took it slow, enjoying the final stretch before returning to the ute where it all began.

Definitely recommend this one if you’re chasing a remote overnight adventure. 👌

The Murray river confluence. Wow what an experience. 88.8km of river paddled over 5 “oresome” days. Starting at the robinvale caravan park and finishing up at firemans bend in Hattah. Could not be more grateful to be apart of such a special trip. The great and deep conversations, the belly laughs and the amazing views. Experienced all weather conditions. Hot still days, a heavy downpour to 30km/h winds. Could not be more proud of this group. It was an honour to be apart of and listen to the stories, questions and workshops. A once in a lifetime trip. Thank you to everyone that was apart of this wonderful journey. Everyone was so loving, generous and warm. Couldn’t of asked for a better group of people. Hopefully see you all again soon!

Cheers to the 29 year 10 outdoor Ed students from SJC for great couple of days. Started off from Wemen boat ramp and paddled 19km down stream, stopping at a few sandbars along the way for a snack & swim. Set up camp on the sandbar and settled in for the night, cooking on the trangias and telling stories around the campfire. Woke up for the sunrise and slowly packed our things. Got our bearings and hiked through the bush with leaders navigating the way. Stopped at the lake for a look, before arriving at the stockyard track after 3 and a half hours and 13.3km walked. Plenty of laughs, conversations and good times. See you next time

Nobody picks a rainy day for canoeing… but maybe they should!!!

I’ve been out on the Murray in all kinds of weather and I’ll tell you something… a misty, light rain morning on that river is one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen. And today St Joseph’s College got to experience exactly that!

We pushed off from the bank and within about five minutes the whole group just went quiet. I don’t think I said a word for the first twenty minutes and neither did anyone else. Just the sound of paddles and light rain and the river moving underneath us!!!

The mist was sitting right on the water. The whole world had this incredible stillness to it that you only get on days when everyone else decides to stay inside!!!

And these kids just… got it. They felt it. You could see it on their faces. That thing that happens when you’re somewhere genuinely beautiful and your brain finally stops rushing and just lets you be there!!

I’ve had perfect sunny days on that river that didn’t come close to what today felt like. Sometimes the grey skies give you something the blue ones can’t…!

This group… they’re going to remember today
