We are extremely honoured to share the news from Neil's family that he has been recognised in the King's Birthday Honours List and awarded the MEDAL OF THE ORDER OF AUSTRALIA (OAM) for his outstanding service to Ballroom Dancing!
Neil was aware of his nomination, and accepted it prior to his passing. Those who knew him well would know that he would have accepted this recognition with his characteristic humility and gratitude. While he never sought praise or recognition, his unwavering passion for Ballroom Dancing was evident through the countless decades he dedicated to promoting, developing, and advancing dance throughout Australia.
Neil's vision was not simply for dance to survive, but to thrive. Throughout every role he undertook and every decision he made, the dancers themselves remained at the heart of his thinking. His commitment to creating opportunities and a strong future for generations of dancers has left an immeasurable mark on our industry.
His family is immensely proud of all that he achieved, and as a Society, we are equally proud of the extraordinary contribution he made to the Australian Dancing Society. Through his leadership, determination, and decades of dedication, Neil helped shape the organisation into what it is today. Those who knew him personally also knew that when Neil Rosenfeld set his mind to something, he pursued it with purpose and an unwavering commitment to achieving the best possible outcome.
The legacy Neil leaves behind is profound and enduring. It can be seen in the dancers he inspired, the organisations he strengthened, and the countless lives he touched throughout his remarkable journey. This award is a fitting recognition of a lifetime of service and a well-deserved honour for a man whose contribution to Ballroom Dancing, and particularly to the Australian Dancing Society, will never be forgotten.
As we prepare to farewell Neil tomorrow, we celebrate not only his achievements, but also the passion, generosity, and vision that defined his life's work. His influence will continue to be felt for many years to come.
