Important Update for Burnie United ⚫️🟡
Members, Players, Coaches and Families.
Dear Burnie United Members, Players, Coaches, Volunteers and Families.
The Burnie United Committee would like to provide an update on two matters
currently being progressed by Burnie City Council that may be of significant interest
to our club community.
We understand that both of these issues may generate strong feelings and many
questions. We ask that members take the time to read the information below and
appreciate that, at this stage, there are still many details that are yet to be confirmed.
Demolition of the Old Clubrooms
Council has advised the club of its intention to demolish the old Burnie United
clubrooms.
We recognise that this building holds a special place in the history of our club.
Many members, families and volunteers contributed countless hours of work over many years to establish and maintain the facility. For many, the building represents
decades of memories, friendships and commitment to Burnie United.
Council's position is that the building is no longer viable for ongoing use. We
understand that significant maintenance, compliance and modification works would
be required to bring the facility to an acceptable standard, with associated costs
considered excessive.
While the building has been unused for some time, we acknowledge that the
proposed demolition may be disappointing and emotional for many members who
have contributed to the club throughout its history. We share and respect those
sentiments.
Proposal to Relocate Burnie United
The second matter relates to a broader Council proposal involving the future location of sporting and community groups within Burnie.
Council has commenced consultation on a concept that would see a number of
sporting and community organisations co-located at a proposed greenfield site in
Burnie. The location will be provided as part of the public council meeting Tuesday
25 August 2026.
The aim of the proposal, as outlined by Council, is to reduce long-term infrastructure and maintenance costs while providing modern, improved facilities that can be shared by multiple organisations.
Importantly, this proposal is still in its early stages.
The club expects to receive more detailed information and preliminary plans from
Council in the coming weeks. Once we have received and reviewed that information,
it will be shared with members.
While Burnie United is not currently being considered as part of the initial stage of the proposed precinct, Council has indicated that it would welcome conversations with
the club regarding future opportunities and the club's interest in being part of the
precinct as it continues to explore expansion opportunities beyond the initial
development.
Consultation and Member Feedback
We anticipate there will be many questions regarding both the demolition of the old
clubrooms and the proposed relocation project.
At this stage, the Committee will not have answers to all questions. Rather than
speculate, we are committed to ensuring that member concerns, ideas and questions are formally raised with Council as part of the ongoing consultation process.
We therefore encourage members to submit their questions and feedback so they can be captured and presented to Council.

The Committee will collate all feedback received and seek responses from Council
wherever possible. As further information becomes available, we will provide updates to members and the wider club community.
Moving Forward Together Burnie United has always been built on the passion, commitment and volunteer spirit
of its members. These discussions involve important parts of our club's history and
future, and it is natural that people will have differing views.
We encourage everyone to remain respectful, patient and constructive as information continues to emerge. The Committee is committed to keeping members informed, representing the interests of the club and ensuring the voices of our members are
heard throughout the consultation process.
