A legacy spanking over 56 years
We all leave a past and legacy
Kancho Akiyoshi Matsui's visits to Shihan Cameron Quinn's dojo in Brisbane during the 1980s remain a legendary milestone in Australian Kyokushin Karate history.
Kancho Akiyoshi Matsui (successor to Sosai Masutatsu Oyama) traveled to Australia during his competitive and developmental peak in the 1980s, putting local karateka through grueling physical and mental conditioning.
Had the honour with many other karateka to share great memory's and hard Budo training with Kancho Matsui.… Many of Sensei franks students attended Kancho Matsui visit and training
From Cameron Quinn Budo Karate acknowledgment of the late Sensei Frank Everrett.
Kyokushin knockdown tournaments began in Australia in 1977, Frank has been the driving force behind many of our greatest champions, positively impacting thousands of karate-ka along the way. Beyond his masterful technique, he taught us by example how to love life, cherish people, and laugh often—lessons I carry with me to this day. In a martial arts landscape where so many dojos are aggressive, pretentious, and completely miss the point, Frank stands out. His subtle, lasting influence transformed everyone fortunate enough to cross his path.
At 74 years of age, I have continued to train and teach for 56 unbroken years in the very same dojo where my journey began in 1970.
I first stepped onto the floor at the Old Burleigh Heads RSL Hall, 6th Avenue, Burleigh Heads, Gold Coast, Queensland, under the guidance of the late Sensei Frank Everrett, training in Kyokushinkaikan Karate
