I’ve just received correspondence from Acting CEO Lachlan Murray…..

I understand the importance of the Bundaberg greyhound track redevelopment project to the Bundaberg Greyhound Racing Club and the greyhound racing industry.

I have worked with the team to schedule an industry forum in Bundaberg at 1.30pm on Monday, 22 June 2026.
Attendance can be either in person or online. I encourage stakeholders to register their attendance here: Register Your Attendance: Bundaberg Greyhounds Industry Forum

I hope to be able to address local participants and the broader industry at this forum to provide further information in relation to the Bundaberg greyhound track redevelopment project.

Regards
Lachlan Murray

Good Afternoon

We have emailed RQ and asked for them to set a time & date to come to the Club and explain to Members what has happened……& what the future looks like going forward.

It’s been a week now and still no response.

We have also emailed the Acting Racing Minister Andrew Powell and are still waiting for a response.

It’s frustrating and I’m sure everyone has questions to ask……

BUNDABERG GRC has been left feeling “betrayed” by Racing Queensland after being told its two-turn racetrack would now be a straight track.

It is with great regret that I inform you that long time Club stalwart and champion conditioner PAUL BURGESS has succumbed to cancer today after a long battle.

Paul always had good dogs and had the knack of being able to improve dogs that came into his kennels. He is a huge loss for the entire industry. We pass on our condolences to his family and our thoughts are with them in this sad time.

RIP Paul.

Good evening members and greyhound supporters.

Following 12 months of efforts towards track refurbishment at Bundaberg, I am disappointed to report that Acting CEO Lachlan Murray and new Board Chairman Matt McGrath have reneged on their commitments. They failed to engage with us or consider our perspectives.
They were purely there to tell us that the highly anticipated 2 turn track was not happening.
I asked if anything we said today would change their minds and Mr Murray said no.
So basically we are getting a straight track that the village idiot knows won’t cater for participants needs.

The entire greyhound community in Queensland are being affected by this short sighted decision and I don’t know any other sport that is run by people who know absolutely nothing about it.
They are listening to the wrong people and making decisions that aren’t in the best interests of participants.

As a committee we are absolutely devastated with this late change by the RQ hierarchy.

I personally have no confidence in Lachlan Murray…..David Brick or Alex Kitching.

They have let the entire Queensland industry down. I doubt they could run a bath.

So tell me people……will you be coming up to race at Bundaberg straight track ??

The Bundaberg Greyhound Club wishes to advise participants that Racing Queensland Acting CEO Lachlan Murray has requested a meeting with Club representatives next Wednesday, which will also be attended by the new Racing Queensland Board Chair Matt McGrath.

At this stage, no agenda or meeting topics have been provided to the Club, and as such we are unable to provide any further information regarding the purpose of the meeting.

The Club will seek clarification from Racing Queensland ahead of the meeting and will provide participants with an update once further information becomes available.

Thanks Rick.

The Bundaberg Greyhound Club would like to provide participants with a brief update regarding the Bundaberg track redevelopment project following recent discussion and speculation.

As many would be aware, the project has progressed through the design, scope and tender stages, with all tender processes now completed. The project is currently sitting with the newly formed Racing Queensland Board awaiting final approval to award the tender and proceed to project commencement.

At this stage, there is nothing further the Project Control Group or the club can do towards the project apart from continue seeking updates from Racing Queensland while awaiting the Board’s decision.

The project was tabled with the new RQ Board on 29th April and, given the additional funding required, was then carried over to the next Racing Queensland Board meeting scheduled for next week.

Following recent correspondence, Acting CEO Lachlan Murray advised that Racing Queensland remains committed to the Bundaberg project and is hopeful of providing a further update towards the end of May.

The club understands the frustration many participants are feeling regarding the delays surrounding the project. A significant amount of time and effort has gone into progressing the redevelopment to this stage and the club remains hopeful of receiving further clarity following the upcoming Board meeting.

We appreciate everyone’s patience and support while we await further information from Racing Queensland.

Hi everyone,

I wanted to provide a brief update regarding the Bundaberg track upgrade project, as I understand many participants are wondering why there has been no visible progress or communication recently.

From the Club’s understanding, the project had progressed to the stage where the tender process had been completed and was moving toward award. Since reaching that point, however, the Club has not received any formal update from Racing Queensland regarding the current status of the project, the timing of the tender award, or the reasons for the delay.

This has become increasingly concerning for the Club, particularly given the amount of time, work and consultation that has already gone into progressing the project to this stage.

The Club also understands participants deserve transparent communication around where things currently stand and what the pathway forward looks like.

At this stage, we are continuing to seek clarity and answers from Racing Queensland and will provide further updates to participants as soon as additional information is made available to the Club.

We appreciate everyone’s patience during what has been a long process.

Regards,
Rick

Bundaberg Greyhound Track Conversion Project Update
The Limited Market Request for Tender (RFT) RQ04668 for the Bundaberg Greyhound Track Conversion Project closed in late March 2026. The tender period was initially extended by two weeks in response to requests from the tenderers, allowing additional time to finalise pricing and refine methodologies. A further two-week extension was granted to a local tenderer affected by flooding at the time. The extensions were considered reasonable to improve submission quality, minimise qualifications, and deliver a more robust and commercially competitive outcome.

Racing Queensland is currently working through final tender clarifications. Contract award is expected to occur in April 2026, with construction anticipated to commence shortly thereafter.
