Hi there!

For those of you at school or with kids at school - I hope you all had a great first day back.

We have had good levels of enquiry from new and existing members which is wonderful however we have not received any new interest from coaches.

With that being said, we will be unable to commence training this term. Without qualified coaches we simply can not start up training again.

So, I suggest members keep practising skating, practise your drills and skills that we were working on last year. I encourage you all to join the local social skate groups available in the region and keep your ears/eyes open as to when the new CBD skate park will open.

The committee has been disussing a one off derby event later on in the year, which I will keep you all updated on.

Thanks and happy skating!

Morning Dolls!

As your new president for 2022 I thought I would take a minute to introduce myself….

I’ve been a member of the Rum City Derby Dolls since 2019. I started out as a mum of a junior member, that hadn’t been on skates for over 15 years.

I am now delighted to say that with attending training and some hard work I can now hold my own with my daughter on the rink, while not game ready – I am getting there.

Last year I completed the Roller Derby coaching course (level 1) with Skate Australia and am now an accredited coach. This course gave me a greater understanding of the leagues rules, training techniques and coaching programs however I do believe that not having any game experience does impact my coaching ability.

As president, my expectations for the Derby Dolls is to acquire some new coaches with loads of coaching and game experience. We need these coaches to guide us through our next level of training. Last year the committee (of which I was a part of) were active in seeking out these coaches. We were actively trying to recruit new members that were senior and had game experience to assist us, however we have been unsuccessful in our attempts.

I believe this will be our biggest challenge for the year, put simply without additional help our team will not be able to advance our skills, and one day become game ready!

We will also need to be mindful of the pandemic and restrictions that will be put on us, which has already disrupted the start of the season.

Stay tuned for information regarding the season which will be posted here in the next coming days.

Happy skating!
