💬 What does being a female referee mean to you?
“It’s about backing yourself, staying fair, and showing younger girls they belong there too.”

🔥 Biggest challenge along the journey?
“Getting in my own head about things.”

💚 What do you love most about refereeing?
“The community would have to be my favourite part.”

🏆 Proudest moment as a female ref?
“Seeing younger refs progress, or kids I reffed at the start of their footy journey now putting their hands up to referee.”

💡 Advice for other females thinking about refereeing?
“Put ya hand up. There’s only one way to find out if you’d enjoy it — and that’s by getting involved.”

🎢 Fun fact:
I’ve been both skydiving & bungee jumping 😳🔥

Great to have Zoe representing the pink shirts each weekend and continuing to inspire the next wave of referees coming through 🩷🏉

Female referees are such an important part of our game — and we’d love to see even more girls backing themselves and giving it a go 🙌

🏉 WEEKEND RECAP 🏉

With Round 9 complete, the ladder is beginning to take shape and every game is starting to carry a little more importance.

For our referees, that means continuing to adapt, learn and rise to the challenges each weekend brings. From junior fixtures through to senior grades, our officials have once again represented the association with professionalism and pride. 💚

As we head deeper into the season, it’s great to see the growth and confidence developing across all levels of our referee group.

Thank you to everyone who took the field this weekend and contributed to another successful round of rugby league across the Sugar Coast.

A couple of weeks ago, Hudson Woods reached a huge milestone in his refereeing journey — making his Senior Debut! 🔥

A well-earned opportunity that reflects the hard work, dedication and growth Hudson has continued to show both on and off the field. 💪

Stepping into the senior ranks is a proud moment for any referee, and everyone at Sugar Coast Rugby League Referees Association is proud to see Hudson achieve it. 🙌

7 years in the game and only getting started 🔥🏉

Meet Josh Bulbert — a referee with big goals, plenty of experience already under his belt, and sights set on the next level 👀

🏉 Years refereeing: 7

📍 Favourite position: Second Row

💬 What inspired you to become a referee?
“My mum saw an advert for refereeing in Bundaberg and I thought… why not? Try something new.”

🔥 Favourite part of game day?
“The laughs and banter in the sheds and out on the field.”

🏃 Biggest challenge so far?
“Travelling away and competing against a stronger standard of refereeing.”

💡 Best lesson refereeing has taught you?
“Stay calm and be patient. Accept the problem, realise there’s only so much you can control, then move on.”

🏆 Proudest moment?
Refereeing his first Grand Final 👏

👀 Future goal?
“To referee Q Cup middle.”

🎵 Game day routine?
“15 minutes of music, get dressed, same warm up I’ve done for 7 years… then toss time.”

💚 Advice for anyone thinking about becoming a referee?
“Do it. Best decision ever.”

🏉 WEEKEND RECAP 🏉

Just like that, Round 8 is done and we’re now into the second half of the season.

As the competition begins to heat up, so too do the opportunities for our referees to continue developing, building confidence and refining their skills each week. Every game, every appointment and every challenge helps prepare our officials for the business end of the season.

A huge thank you to all of our referees who took the field across the Sugar Coast this weekend. Your dedication and commitment continue to play a vital role in ensuring rugby league can be enjoyed throughout our region. 💚

With plenty of football still to come, we’re looking forward to seeing what the remainder of the season has in store.
