We are delighted to welcome Julie Snelling and Susan Neaves as the newest Life Members of the City of Bunbury Surf Life Saving Club.

Life Membership is one of the highest honours our club can bestow, recognising outstanding service and an enduring commitment to our members, our club, and the wider community.

Julie and Sue have each made an extraordinary contribution over many years, generously giving their time, expertise, and support to help our club thrive. Their dedication, leadership, and willingness to serve have had a lasting impact, strengthening our club and inspiring generations of members.

It was wonderful to see so many of our Life Members join us at our AGM last Friday night. Thank you to everyone who attended. It was a fantastic opportunity to reflect on another successful season, celebrate our members' achievements, and look ahead to the future of our club.

A special thank you to Joseph for providing the catering, and to Julie and Tony for operating the bar on the evening.

Congratulations Alex from all of us at the City of Bunbury Surf Life Saving Club.🎉 Commonwealth Gold for the S10 100m Fly - what an achievement!!

The mother of Bunbury-raised para-swimmer Alex Saffy said she still can’t believe her son won a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games.

Saffy, who has cerebral palsy, finished atop the podium for the men's 100-metre butterfly S-10 event in Glasgow on Friday night, with a 57.11 sec win.

Fellow Aussie Col Pearse was close behind him, winning silver in the same event.

Saffy's mother Deborah Saffy stayed up all night in Bunbury anxiously waiting to watch the race at about 4am WST on Saturday.

“It’s that build-up, just that wait before you see them walk out, the whole thing is nerve-wracking,” she said.

She described watching her son win gold as surreal.

"It takes a minute to sink in, our processing is always a little bit behind the actual result,” she said.

“There’s that adrenaline and the nervousness of it all, and then there’s the relief that comes with it, that he’s had a good race … and then you think, wow, he pulled it off.

“We were really happy for him, he’s worked hard, he’s sacrificed a lot.”

Saffy moved to Bunbury, from South Africa as a seven-year-old, in 2013.

His mother said the city played a vital role in his swimming success.

“One of his first places of connection and belonging was Bunbury Swimming Club and Bunbury Surf Life Saving.”
