The Countdown Is On – Moreton Island Fishing Classic 2026! 🚒🐟

We’re already looking ahead to another incredible year as we gear up for the 2026 Moreton Island Fishing Classic, happening September 9–12, 2026! ☀️🌊

Mark your calendars and keep those dates free — this is one weekend you won’t want to miss. Tickets aren’t on sale just yet, but trust us… you’ll want to be ready when they go live. We’ll be sharing an update as soon as they’re available, so stay tuned! 🎟️

The Fishing Classic is more than just a competition. It’s about bringing our community together, supporting the Moreton Island Fire Station 🚒, and celebrating everything we love about this incredible island. From early morning launches and big catches to sunset stories and plenty of laughs, it’s always a weekend to remember.

These limited edition eskies were proudly designed and created by members of the Moreton Island Classic group in collaboration with the Moreton Island Fire Station. A huge shoutout to everyone involved – they look incredible!

We can’t wait to welcome everyone to Moreton Island and see who takes home these beauties, along with plenty of other amazing prizes. Let the countdown begin! 🎉

Only one week to go until the Moreton Island Classic. A big thank you to all the sponsors for the prizes, cash and vouchers. The branded merchandise this year is remarkable - measuring sticks from Skyreach, wading bags from Alvey Reels, bait buckets from Garry Howard Rods, straw hats from Anaconda, and shirts, hats etc from Wahoo & Daikin.
This year the "Classic" will be opened by the State Member for Redcliffe & Moreton Island Kerri-Anne Dooley. Hopefully Kerri-Anne can tell us about the $35 million initiative for zero litter in our playground, Moreton Bay. With this initiative we might never catch a plastic bag again in the bay.
There are a lot of big tailor being caught at the moment. Look at the 4.22kg tailor that the famous Mr Barry Po***ck caught last Saturday night. Barry has all the information on this species of fish after decades working for Fisheries Queensland, then for us on the Moreton Bay Working Group. Barry took me fishing for the big tailor after the "Classic" last year, and gave me some serious angler education that I will pass on to you all this year.
The big news is that Alvey is going to let a few of the "Classic" champions from the previous 2 years trial the new range of Alvey Reels. Those individuals will be given a performance sheet to fill out on the reels functions etc.
This year there will be bottled water as well as sausage sizzles at the weigh in for a small cost. Great to see 33 junior competitors have entered this year.
I have picked the late afternoon low tides so everyone can get around the rocks at Black Rocks and the Timbers on the ocean side after the weigh in and before the weigh in on Saturday.
