Hi everyone! Today Facebook reminded me of my teacher training completed almost exactly 5 years ago, which prompted me to give an introduction to myself.
I have always loved movement, I have danced since I was three, all the way through my high school years. Then I found myself doing Brazilian dancing, which eventually lead more into fitness, where I taught Zumba which seemed to be the natural progression! I turned to fitness instructing after I had my first child Ella, and it was Zumba actually that lead me back to feeling fit and strong, plus having a heck of fun along the way!
Then the crossfit phase hit me, I did crossfit for four years and became the fittest I have ever been. I ended up getting my certification to teach as well, and taught for two years. It took me awhile to realise that although I was very fit, I started to have little niggly pains here and there, and an exhaustion was creeping over me. Looking back now it’s easy for me to see that this type of exercise quite simply didn’t fit into my lifestyle, or suit me at a soul level, despite it being fun and keeping me fit.
I was going through some pretty heavy things in my life back then, and the added stress of this type of exercise nearly gave me a breakdown. I stopped the crossfit, had a break, and remembered my love for Pilates from about 15 years prior. I booked my course in Brisbane, completed it and have been teaching ever since.
What I found was that for me, Pilates gave me that mind body connection that is so important. I found it worked me so hard, but at the end I was never depleted or exhausted like I used to feel with other forms of exercise. Instead I felt strong from the inside, and energised. I also found that although I didn’t quite have all the muscles I had when doing crossfit, I can honestly say that I was stronger inside, I had never worked my core before. There’s something about having a strong core, I feel it leads to an increased confidence, of course a flatter stomach, kind of a feeling that you can handle absolutely anything that life brings you.
I love Pilates. I know what it has done for me, and that is why I am giving back and love to teach people this beautiful form of exercise. I have seen previous clients grow within themselves when they do Pilates consistently, increase their core and all over body strength, even a couple of times a week is fine as it’s a perfect form of exercise to incorporate with other things that you are doing in your life as well. I hope that this inspires you to come and join me so I can pass this love onto you.
Well, that’s me! Have the best day ever xx
