A little bit of a training session whilst in Japan. Couldn’t let Tyron Searle miss out on any of his requirements for his Nidan (2nd Dan) grading. Good to see his young son Alex join in and graded to full blue belt. A few lessons learnt today which is not a bad thing. Well done. After a few weeks of no training a warm room and a few illness you all performed well.

Another successful senior training and grading at the Mid Coast Martial Arts Academy! 🥋
It’s always great to come together with the Instructors and senior students from different Dojos to ensure we’re all aligned and focused on the same goals in the martial arts.
I am extremely proud of the way you are all training osu

On Saturday Kristie attended Port Macquarie Dojo and attempted her Shodan Black belt grading. She had to perform all her kihon (basics) and Kata (set pattern of moves). This was done in front of all other bkack belts to see if she performed them well enough to be granted her black belt. After this she was put through 50 one minute rounds of sparring. To finish is not an easy feat. Continuous sparring with different attackers in the heat of the day. By the end all candidates were exhausted.

I am proud to say Kristie passed her grading and now is a new Shodan black belt. She has now earned the title of Sempai.

Congrats Kristie you have made Sensei Martin and myself look real good. We are honoured say you are one of our students.

We would also like to congratulate all the other students who passed their Sandan, Nidan and Shodan gradings.

Last night we had a coloured belt grading in the dojo at the showground. 10 students were put through their kihon (basic moves) Kata ( set pattern of moves) and Kumite (sparring).

Kyoshi Michael Fardell from Port Macquarie came down to run the grading and see who had improved enough to gain their next belt. I am pleased to say all students passed. Kyoshi was impressed on how much improvement everyone has had since he last saw them.

Congrats to everyone who graded last night and also the 2 students who travelled to Port Macquarie on Sunday and graded up there.

We have one of our students Kristie attempting her bkack belt grading in Port Macquarie on 14 December. I can definitely say anyone who passes that day has earned the grade. It’s not an easy test. We all wish her the best on the day.

We will be finishing up with the last training fir the year on Monday 16 December. We will reopen in January date to be confirmed.

It’s been awhile since I’ve put up a post on what has been happening.

In December 2023 Cobe and Banjo attempted to grade to Shodan Black Belt. (1st Dan). They had to perform all of their kihon (line work) and Kata ( set pattern of moves). This is followed by 50 rounds of continuous sparring against other senior belts. This is no easy task and make matters worse done on a very warm day. By the finish of the grading both young men were exhausted. I’m happy and proud to say they both passed and now are black belts.

Our other senior belt Kristie gained her 1st Kyu brown belt in February this year. She will attempt her confirmation to attempt black belt in June this year. If successful she will be invited to attempt her black belt in December.

Today we had a kyu grading. Kyoshi Michael Fardell came down from Port Macquarie to take the grading and see who had improved and learnt enough to gain the next belt level.

Everyone put in a great effort and happy to say everyone passed and gained their next belt.

Kyoshi was extremely happy with how everyone is going. If he gave you any feed back take it on board and continue to improve.

I would just like to say Sensei Martin and I are proud of all of our students. Not just today but the way you have all trained and act.

Keep up the good work OSS

At the end of November we had a grading at Bulahdelah. Unfortunately young Jack was unable to attend as he was sick.

When he returned Sensei Martin and myself put him through a grading during class. This was his first grading. He put forward a great performance in Kihon (basics), Kata (set pattern of moves) and sparring.

Jack passed and was extremely excited that he received a new belt. Congrats young warrior.

A big Congratulations to Cobe and Banjo. Both these young men went to Port Macquarie to see if they could confirm their place in the black belt grading to take place in December next year. This is used to make sure they are on track to have the skills and ability to pass that grading. It also gives the instructors information on what they need to work on and improve in the next 12 months. A lot of hard training and fitness will be on the cards for these 2 in the next year.

Obviously from the first comment they both passed and will take a spot in the grading in December.

I’d like to thank Pete and Emma for the time they take out for travelling to Port so the boyz can grade.

Another brown belt grading/tip testing was conducted today at Bulahdelah Martial Arts Academy. Senior students from port macquarie and Armidale attended to go through a training/grading session with Shihan Michael Fardell and Tasshi Pete Nolan.

A bit warm but all students performed well. My two students Cobe got his next tip and Banjo graded to 2nd kyu. Congrats to them both and all the other students and gaining the next tip.
