I am struggling a little with the best way to publish our book on bunkai and also a video series. Any advice would be gratefully received but please keep in mind that I have an overworked parent that may be able to help when she gets back.

Training starts back soon and we look forward to your return. There are some tournaments some of you might like to attend. We appreciate that our focus is on a last resort self defense and not the loud, showy theatrics you see in karate tournaments today giving karate a bad image IMHO.
However some have asked about tournament information and so far we have found many have not provided a functional email address. To keep up to date and what is happening at NLMA, I ask that you provide us with an email you use.
You absolutely will not be bombarded with trivia just information you might need.

Just to qualify grading invitations.
We have three A"s as criteria for grading.
A ttendance you must go to a defined number of classes.
A bility some people may be more able than others but most important is that you can manage the techniques in a grading.
A attitude you must display a good attitude in the dojo, at work/school and home.
Good luck on the 15th November.

Very pleased to see the effort put in by our 4 new black belts in their grading on Friday night.
Black belts are not just handed out at NLMA.
Yudansha candidates are invited to grade when they have met attendance requirements and have shown they understand our syllabus and can perform at a high level.
Kihon or basics have to be performed at a very high standard.
Kata or forms have to be demonstrated from the list of heian kata and a favourite from the higher grade kata and include the bunkai or application from a number of techniques and combinations which are taught with the kata.
Kumite or sparring is performed against one or more opponents and must include throws, locks, chokes and the plethora of self defense applications from within the kata.
The grading culminates in a speed break and an enactment of a scenario such as shirt front grab, bear hug, haymaker road rage etc.
Well done and congratulations.

Congratulations to Ethan Mears, successful new Yudansha at Northern Lakes Martial Arts.
A shodan grade in Shotokan Karate Jutsu, Ethan has been training with us since he was a Kamikaze Kid and will be an inspiration for younger grades coming up.
A black belt is never given away in our school and the candidate has to traverse not only the 3 k's of Kihon, kata and kumite familiar to most karateka but the hidden meanings within kata which includes locks, throws, takedowns, chokes, ground defense arm bars etc within common scenarios of violent attacks.
Well done Ethan and thank you to Daniel Mingare for coming along to assist Sensei Craig and David Mears to raise a few lumps.

I have been watching Life on our Planet narrated by Morgan Freeman. Fascinating documentary using geological evidence over billions of years. It covers creation, evolution and formation of our earth with so many climate changes before farting cows and power stations lol.
I recommend it for entertaining and educational viewing. Steven Spielberg has a hand in the film making so you will see animals, birds and insects moving around.
Netflux has a winner with this.
