Last weekend we went for a little adventure to find some waterfalls (after eating a coffee donut at Kennilworth😍) ☕️☕️

We drove down a random dirt road, then we walked along the “no horse” signed track. 🚫🐎

After a few minutes I regretted wearing non-active wear clothes. The only time I don’t ...👟🤦‍♀️

The path became hard to follow... it was like an overgrown goat track along a ridge, bushy & slippery... especially in the strappy shoes I was wearing. 🍂🍃

I took off my shoes. I started thinking is this even a track? Is this even the right way? Should we just quit and go back?🤷‍♀️

But I am a little stubborn & we weren’t in a rush. We eventually found that damn waterfall...
winning! 🙌🏻

😈I am going to ruin this story by pointing out the similarities of our waterfall journey & a fitness journey👿

🌟The time will pass anyway. You are not in a hurry! Just keep heading towards your waterfall.. (goal) even if the path is challenging.

🌟Circumstances aren’t always going to be perfect. Sometimes you wear the wrong shoes. Sometimes you miss a workout. Life happens, but you just gotta do the best you can, when you can with whatever you got 👊🏻

🌟You need to be a little stubborn. When that little voice says it’s too hard, you gotta put up a fight & keep following the path you chose!
Unless you decide you no longer want waterfalls.. (insert goal you wanted)

🌟Find similar stubborn people on similar paths so when it gets tough you look to each other and shrug “well we’ve come this far...” & push each other further

🌟Celebrate the wins, big and small! Even if the waterfall isn’t as majestic as you hoped. (The next one we found was way more awesome)

🌟Have balance, eat a donut... lined with Nutella & filled with coffee because you gotta enjoy the journey & sometimes that means trying new things 🍩 ☕️

🚨10 week “Challenge”🚨

❌It’s not about challenging yourself to eat nothing or cut out sugar or go keto or do a “cleanse”. Those things are extreme, unnecessary & unsustainable.

✅It is about eating essential foods in suitable amounts sprinkled in with the things you like..
🍗🍳protein for supporting muscle growth & recovery
🍚🥔carbs for energy & enjoyment
🥦🍎plant based fibre for digestion
🍕🥨Foods you like, for sanity & sustainability
💧oh & plenty of water to stay hydrated!

❌It’s not about flogging yourself everyday, twice a day with stupid amounts of cardio or burpees... (unless you like them)

✅It is about having a plan & being CONSISTENT! Prioritising your workouts & being in a supportive environment. Shifting the focus from the number on the scales to the number of ways you progress with your training!

❌It is not about burning the candle at both ends, stressing about being perfect or giving up your whole life to “be fit”. There is always “something” happening in life, time to stop making excuses & do the best you can with what you can!

✅It is about giving yourself time for self care, making sure you are getting enough sleep & making time for things you enjoy.

❌It isn’t a quick fix. It isn’t a magic pill. It will take effort. It will require building new habits (adding things to your life). It will mean changing your mindset & self talk.
It will mean turning up & taking action.

✅If you are tired of the sacrifice & punishment style of reaching your goals
If you are ready to invest in your health & fitness...
If you are ready to make adjustments for the better...
If you are ready to make yourself proud...

A little bit about why I started BAD Bodies 👇🏻

❌Nope I wasn’t overweight and had an amazing transformation... I have been fairly active most of my life.

❌No I’m not in it for “the gram” or followers.... TBH all of the “influencers” & digital perfection is slightly cringe worthy for me 🤷‍♀️

❌I’m not about that “laptop lifestyle”... I enjoy interacting with people, helping people achieve PB’s in real life, hearing about their wins & doing what we can to minimise the struggles.

What BAD Bodies IS about..

✅To help you adopt a balanced approach to eating, adding things to your life rather than slashing and restricting & beating yourself up.
Changing the mindset from “good” & “bad” foods to eating for enjoyment while feeding your energy requirements.

✅To encourage everyone to be active for ALL purposes such as... improved mood, stronger body, more energy, reduced anxiety, healthy cardiovascular system (no more dying after a flight of stairs), keep your joints & muscles well-oiled by using them! Improved performance inside and outside the gym and because you want to FEEL GOOD! 🙅‍♀️Stop focusing only on weight and the scales.

✅To build a durable mindset, understanding that you WILL have setbacks and KNOWING that you will comeback 💪🏼 because you have created SUSTAINABLE & ENJOYABLE habits that you can maintain

👀 You see I have been through the good/bad yo-yo. The guilt of eating foods that weren’t “clean” and even beating myself up eating fruit!
(This is why I take off my judgey pants when it comes to food, I am not going to dump any/ or extra guilt onto anyone for eating!)

☠️I did struggle with orthorexia... a self-punishing relationship with food, where sufferers are obsessed with eating in a way they see as “perfect or pure”. My day would be ruined if I ate “the wrong thing”.

⚔️The battle was exhausting and I am glad I gave up on the “ALL or NOTHING” approach that most of the fitness industry promotes.

🍞🥔Now I eat carbs (think pasta, rice, bread, potatoes & cereal) for enjoyment & to support training.

💦💦Focus on staying hydrated, (easier said than done on some days).

🌱🍎Get plant-based fibre from fruit & vege (YES Mum, I still eat my vegetables, thanks for giving me them as a kid, especially mashed tatey)

🍪☕️ Make sure I have foods I enjoy, not as a “cheat meal/day”... but because it is delicious. (No more unnecessary restrictions or “off-limit” foods). A cuppa with scotch finger biscuits are my favourite.

😴 🛏 Get enough sleep. Don’t underestimate the power of rest! The usual goal is 7-8 hours... but I also love to nap.

🏋️‍♀️🐐Workout 2-3 times a week. (Sometimes more but I don’t flog myself for hours a day) Mostly it involves training at the gym but I make sure I add in other things I enjoy like climbing mountains or outdoor activities.

📍Getting Started...

🧚‍♀️ Most people wait until they are feeling inspired & motivated to start working out. These feelings are about as predictable as a cage full of pixies released by Lockhart (yeah I just made a Harry Potter reference)

🥔 How many times per week are you truly motivated before you start a workout?

📚From reading plenty, personal experience & monitoring clients, the best way to start is with action.

🌞How many times are you NOT pumped about a workout? Then once you have turned up & warmed up you are ready to take on the world or at least the weights room or a class?

🎱 That is because you have taken that first step, the ACTION to get the ball rolling. Then you are INSPIRED to keep going & MOTIVATED to get back to it....

💃🏻Then it’s time to take ACTION again!

⚡️My tip for starting your workout is to make your first ACTION too easy... so easy Lockhart could do it, even after he hits himself with Obliviate (A Memory Charm... yeah Harry Potter again..)

🎯Some action you could take:

📝Write down the days you are going to work out & what will be involved in the workout... Have a plan!!
(easy)

🎶If music is a motivator for you (it definitely is for me) put on your favourite tune before your workout, while you get dressed or after work in the car
(easy)

👟Just put your shoes on and do 3 minutes of stretching/walking/rower/bike it’s movement, it’s action!
(easy)

🦁Most likely you will be ready to beast your workout..
(might not be easy, but now you are motivated!)

⏰I have struggled with getting motivated plenty of times, it’s the smallest actions that get the ball rolling, with exercise or anything you are trying to start.

🍇The grape thing is once your workouts turn into a habit it just becomes something you turn up for effortlessly *it’s hard until it’s easy*

💡What are your ways to get started?

😡”Are you angry?”

🐣One of my new clients asked me this after the Easter break... “No why...?”

🍫Their reply was because they had indulged over the weekend.
“What’s the punishment today” was the next question... [We worked hard regardless]

💦Here’s the thing... I love a tough gym sesh & giving my clients a good workout BUT it is not a penalty for eating food.

🤷‍♀️How are you supposed to look forward to going to the gym if you view it as punishment? [Unless you’re into that kind of thing]

🧠 It is the smallest mindset shift to your training that will make a big difference...

🚫Drop the guilt, punishment & “I HAVE to” feelings! [That shtuff is heavier than those weights you’ll lift later!]

🦄Focus on that kick a$$ feeling you get from training. Ficus on being CONSISTENT. Focus on making PB’s & getting stronger. Getting fitter. Punching harder.

👑The choice is yours. Aside from looking & feeling good.... You GET to create a healthier, fitter, more DURABLE version of yourself!

My Transformation Tuesday

The ONE thing you have to do 👉🏻 BS!

If there was only “ONE secret thing, wouldn’t everyone be satisfied with their appearance? It takes more than ONE thing if you want long term results. It requires developing small habits in all areas of your life that are SUSTAINABLE & ENJOYABLE.

Here are a few factors that got me from before to now

⏰TIME: There is plenty of time between these photos. Over 1 year. Time & Patience. Developing lifelong habits aren’t going to happen overnight & either are the results. The results come through effort & consistency. Are you putting in effort? Consistently?

🍴EATING MORE: I started to eat food I enjoy, paying attention to portion size. More BALANCED. More carbs. More flavour & I felt more satisfied. Instead of eating as little as possible, eating to YOUR individual energy requirements allows for optimal training performance & stops the binge eating cycle. Tracking calories & macros for a few weeks is a great way to establish suitable habits.

😴REST: The photo on the right was actually taken after my Christmas/New Year holiday. I came back to Training feeling enthusiastic & energised. Don’t underestimate rest & recovery. You don’t need to train HARD everyday for results. You need to rest & recover to perform well! Schedule 2-3 moderate to hard sessions, sprinkled with some low intensity exercise. Include ACTIVE things that makes you happy! Beach walk, surf, swim, mountain climb, yoga, stretching or social sports!

👯‍♀️PEOPLE: Since the photo on the left I met a few awesome people who also love the feeling of smashing a tough workout. They & all of my clients keep me motivated & inspired on a weekly basis. The people closest to you can help or hinder your results. Surround yourself with people who are on a similar journey, who share your passions, who inspire you. This also goes for social media. Unfollow the people who only offer negativity, stress or anger.

🔥EXTERNAL FACTORS: I was dealing with some of my own issues in the photo on the left, I had lost my way, which resulted in me training less & stress eating. To be real, training & tracking calories won’t always be top priority. Life & situations change - jobs change, schedules change, location can change, income changes, friends change, family changes & accidents can happen. Stressful things that will knock you down. The important thing is to establish those little habits so that once whatever that external factor is dealt with or adjusted for, you are able to get back up again stronger & more DURABLE than before.

*Regardless of how I look in these photos, I was super stoked to be making memories on the Sunshine Coast with people close to my heart.
