It was an honour and a privilege to host Professor for our first BJJ seminar at Martial Spirit. One of the true pioneers of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Australia, Professor de Been shared unforgettable insights into the levels that can be achieved through decades of consistent effort, dedication, and an unrelenting desire to improve.

Thank you, Peter, for sharing your invaluable knowledge with us, along with your precise and incredibly efficient technique.

Congratulations also to Hugues Sensei on being awarded the first stripe on his black belt — a well-deserved recognition of his commitment and contribution to the art.

We look forward to continuing to share the legacy at the club.

🚨BJJ seminar with Peter de Been is here!

We are pleased to announce a very special Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu seminar taking place at

📍Martial Spirit on Thursday, 21st May 2026, 6:00-8:00pm.

This session will be led by one of the true pioneers of BJJ in Australia - Peter de Been, a 6th Dan black belt with decades of experience in both practice and teaching. Opportunities to learn directly from someone of this calibre are exceptionally rare — this is not something that comes around often.

We warmly welcome all members and the public to attend.

Congratulations to our recent black belt promotions. Ben achieved his black belt in Judo to become the clubs first Dan grade promotion with Judo Victoria. Simon achieved his Shodan in Aikido after a great determined effort on the mats. A black belt is often seen as the pinnacle of Martial arts achievement but is in fact readiness for the intense study to come. We wish Simon and Ben much success with their future efforts. Thank you to all our members who assisted in their exam preparations and those who took uke on the day.

Scott and team competed in the Muay Thai Nationals on the weekend. A patience game over three days, Scott took the gold medal in his division and did the club proud. Thank you for everyone that came down to support particularly with the uncertainty of the schedule. Thank you to the team who helped prepare Scott for the event and supported him on the day.

A busy weekend for our Muay Thai team with development days. The team covered two events, one sparring day at JS Muay Thai and the other an interclub at Young bulls gym. Great effort from the team to push themselves and gain invaluable experience and ring time. Thank you to those who came along to support 🧡

Last Sunday a small group of our Judo ka juniors participated in the Senshi Judo games. It was a great day of action and judo development. Our five players put in a strong result collecting 🥇🥇🥇🥈🥈 Thank you to the parents on the day who supported their children and the event. Thank you Senshi for putting on another great development day.

Another Muay Thai Vic bout for young Scott last Sunday. Scott fought a clean and technical fighter from Geelong bringing home the win with a dominant performance 🏆 Thank you to all the team who helped prepare Scott for his fight and supported him on the day 🧡

Last weekend Scott fought on Muay Thai Vic against a skilled and tricky southpaw. Scott put up another great display of technical Muay Thai, pulling up just shy of a win on the day with a split decision against him. Thank you to all the team who attended in support and everyone who helped him prepare for this bout.
