Brunswick Junior Clinic

Brunswick Junior Clinic Track cycling racing for all who can ride a bike aged 4-15. All about participation, enjoyment and s It’s just $5 per family for three-hours of good times.

The Brunswick Cycling Club Novice Junior Clinic was established by the late Henry Hill around 1948 and its aim was to provide cyclists under the age of 16 the coaching and environment to learn the art of track racing. d for a bike. You’ll also need a ride licence for the season, which will cost either $32 or $66 – depending on your age. Every kid will get to do the famous Alan Grindal Challenge (can you break 30 seconds?) and then get three races and lots of training on the day. Races will include scratch races, handicaps, points races, flying 200s, sprints and team events like pursuits and team sprints. The last Summer Clinic Day of the season is Family Fun Day. This day is full of special events for everyone to participate in. Costumes are highly encouraged with the best dressed receiving special prizes. Highlights include the Mums’ race, Dads’ race, handicaps and the family time trial challenge. Where: Brunswick Cycling Club, Roberts Reserve, Harrison St, Brunswick. (enter via Donald St)
Who: Anyone aged four to 15 who wants to learn how to ride a track bike and have great fun
What you need: A helmet and a smile – we can provide bikes but please note some do need to be shared on the day

Another of the Brunswick Cycling Family gone way to soon. RIP Joseph Schibeci

I met Joe through the BCC. He was larger than life and eager to know EVERYTHING about track cycling. I didn't realise he had raced with another Melbourne based club before heading to Europe to race in Italy. Where he, in typical Joe fashion, excelled. I would often listen spellbound to Joe's stories of racing in Europe. Of the racing and challenges of life in a continental team, team orders and tactics. But especially of the people he met and the friendships he forged.

That was the thing about Joe. Whether it was cycling, engineering, CAD design, Archery, Skating or anything else he dipped his toe into. Marriage and fatherhood also belong to this set. Joe would head into it with 120% dedication and committment. Joe wasn't capable of not trying his best at everything he tried. Of not turning himself inside out to ensure he left no stone unturned, no question unanswered in his search to giving all he could of himself to something he tried. Because invariably, Joe would meet people along the way, and was then, physically unable to let them down. He needed to see these new found friends enjoy the thing, at least as much as he did. Seeing Joe be a husband and father was seeing him apply the same love, joy, enthusiasm and sheer methodical determination to it. To make sure Terezja, Jasmin, Peter and John, were as happy and as fulfilled in life as they could possibly be. He applied this same Joe-ness to friendship. I am forever grateful for being able to count him as a friend.

Joe was always confident, because there was no reason to doubt himself. He was true. True to his family, true to his friends and true to himself. He will always be fondly remembered as a peson to look up to, a warm and caring confidant and an amazing friend. I miss you mate.

Love Ewin

24 riders braved the elements on Sunday for the first BCC Junior Clinic of the summer. It was great to see some new faces and some returning faces.

The results of the 30 second challenge are listed below. A number of PB's were set despite the conditions. The big question is: Will anyone conquer the 30 second challenge this summer?

There is only one way to find out - Our next clinic is on Sunday 16th of November. Hope to see you there!
