FP Melbourne Functional Patterns facility, move better and end the cycle of pain.

21/05/2026

Pete’s story of pain and how he was able to get himself out of it using FP. Pete’s mindset and circumstances drove his unwavering commitment to fixing his body. He followed the movement elimination protocol and dietary recommendations to a tee and kept very consistent with his training regimen. A perfect example of Fp working for those who choose to commit to it. Couldn’t ask for a better client to train.

Before FP
• Chronic lower and mid back pain for 3 years following an L5-S1 bulging disc injury from rowing in January 2021
• Constant daily pain averaging 6/10
• Could only stand for around 15 minutes before severe pain
• Relied on codeine, 6 Panadols and 6 Nurofens daily just to function and get through work
• Forced to work from home and give up plans to work overseas
• Couldn’t train, socialise properly, or enjoy weekends with family and friends
• Travelled to London six months before starting FP and had to heavily medicate just to survive the flight due to the pain
• Consulted 37 different practitioners including surgeons and high-end physiotherapists who worked with celebrities, but found no lasting relief and was repeatedly told he would likely have to live with the pain

After FP
• Started Functional Patterns training in January 2024
• After 6 months of twice-weekly sessions, completely stopped regular pain medication
• Pain reduced from a constant 6/10 to 0/10
• Can now comfortably sit, stand, and regularly work 12-14 hour days without pain
• Six months after the painful London flight, completed the exact same trip with no pain at all
• Was finally able to pursue his lifelong goal of travelling and working abroad
• Has regained the ability to exercise, work properly, socialise, and enjoy life again
• Continues his training online today while living overseas with a significantly improved quality of life

RG Bar Class starting June 18th. This is the second intake of our 6 week progression and there’s already a few people on the list. We’re capping the class at 6 participants to keep the coaching and cueing as accurate as possible.

The RG Bar is designed to improve rotational strength, coordination, core integration, posture, balance, and force transfer through movement. The goal is to teach your body to work together as one connected system rather than isolating muscles.

The class is beginner to intermediate friendly, with progressions scaled week by week to build people up properly.

If you want to join, click the link in bio, head to Group Classes, select the May 18th intake, and secure your spot. Payment is made upfront for the full 6 week block. Spots will go quickly.

Over the past few months we’ve had more and more people walk through the doors after years of trying different approaches with little to no lasting change.

Hip pain.
Knee pain.
Scoliosis.
Chronic joint pain.
Strength loss.
Movement decline.
Years of physios, massage, chiro and conventional training.

A common theme we hear is that many people had started accepting deterioration as normal.

One thing Filippo consistently does well is help clients understand the mental framework needed to work through long term dysfunction and chronic pain patterns. Not just what to do, but why they’re doing it, what behaviours are reinforcing the issue, and what it actually takes to create lasting change.

His approach combines patience, structure and detailed movement analysis with education that helps people reconnect to their body and better understand how their habits, posture and movement patterns influence their health over time.

These reviews speak for themselves:
• Pain reduction after years of failed treatments
• Improved posture and movement quality
• Increased strength and physical confidence
• Returning to hiking, training and daily life with less limitation
• Long term changes people can actually feel and maintain

Appreciate the work you do

If you’ve been stuck in cycles of temporary relief and recurring pain, this may be the sign to start approaching your body differently.

Click the link in the bio to book in Filippo, if you can find a space feel free to Dm and we will organise it all for you.

KNEE PAIN AND POSTURE RESULTS

Our client Troy has been putting in the work to get on top of his knee pain that couldn’t be remedied using traditional means. This guy goes hard in the paint and has been a model client during the process. Eliminating other forms of training, holding to the dietary protocols and training hard in his own time.

Before (pics 7/1/25)
Knee pain:
At rest: 2/10
During moderate training: 5/10
Intense training: 9/10

After FP (pics 22/4/26)
Pain: 0/10

Upper trap pain while hiking
Before: 6/10
After: 1/10

Posture improvements
Kypholordosis : more neutral spine
Scapular wing: not present
Cervical hyperextension: improved

Troy’s words: “Before starting FP I had done traditional weight training for years (bench press, chin-ups, deadlifts, squats etc) and also trained to run a marathon. I had occasional issues with my back when working out and extreme pain in my knees when I ran too much. I went to the osteo a couple times for my knees which helped ease the pain temporarily but would just get worse every time I ran, as I wasn’t addressing the root cause. By the end of the marathon I was in agony and knew I had to make a change to my exercise routine.

I began 1:1 training at FP as well as following their 10-week online course. Just over 12 months later, I feel like my life has completely changed. My posture has improved dramatically, I never get any pain or discomfort with my movements and I have a much better understanding of how my body and biomechanics works.

I feel like my body moves in a way that is much more aligned with how humans are supposed to move based on our evolutionary biology, and as a result I’m finding many unexpected flow-on benefits. I can breathe better, digest food easier and my baseline mental state is much better, along with many other subtle but impactful changes. FP takes a completely different approach to any other training programs I’ve tried (and I’ve tried a lot) and I would absolutely recommend it to anyone wanting to improve their physical (or mental) state.”

Our group classes have been running at capacity this year, so we’re continuing with structured 6-week cycles.

These classes are a great way to supplement your one-on-one in-person training, or, if you’re new to Functional Patterns, a solid introduction to how we work.

All classes focus on integrating the body using the FP First Four principles
standing, walking, running, and throwing
so everything you train actually carries over to real movement.

Next cycle start dates

Fundamentals
Tuesday 3 March · 6:05pm

Following up from the previous post — here's a look at Edwin's running gait improvements and what's changed mechanically:
Lateral lines engaging
The lateral lines (Fascial continuity on either side of the body)doing its job, creating elastic tension through the body rather than collapse through the joints.
Frontal-plane control in sprinting
Clear use of lateral lines of tension to stabilise the spine during faster running and sprint efforts - no excessive rib shift.
Spinal stability under speed
Force travelling through the body to the ground, instead of leaking into the shoulder or ankle excessively.
Arm drive restored
Arm swing syncing cleanly with leg drive
Cervical motion improved
Neck moving with the stride rather than locking up or compensating for instability below.
V
Pain status
No ankle pain
No shoulder pain
Sprinting comfortably
This is what happens when gait mechanics change at the system level, not just by treating symptoms.

HUMAN FOUNDATIONS Brisbane 2025 done and dusted.
It’s clear these courses are evolving. The people showing up now are arriving more prepared than ever. They’re absorbing the system faster, applying it with more intent, and building the framework they need to get themselves out of pain, and if they choose, help others do the same.

Every course, we’re seeing more and more people stepping up wanting to become trainers. They’re recognising the relevance and impact FP brings, and it’s obvious that this work is starting to reach the masses in a real way.

If you were on this course — keep going. Stay consistent, keep integrating the fundamentals, and trust that the work you’re doing now is laying the foundation for bigger shifts down the line. You’re on the right path, keep pushing.
