We had a chat with Anita Van Rooyen (Graduate Diploma in Communications 2009) about her time at VU and her career journey so far.

What's your favorite memory at VU? I started studying at VU as a mature-aged student, at the suggestion of my boss, as the first in my family to attend uni. Weirdly, I loved slamming together my assignments, mostly the day before they were due, and adding real life examples to the class discussions.

What do you love most about what you do now? I love helping students to build self confidence and self-leadership in ways that gently stretch their comfort zones in fun and innovative ways, especially for those that don't see themselves as natural leaders.

Can you briefly describe your career journey? I've had the full suite - working in government, charity & NFP, corporate and now running my own business. Leveraging the skills and knowledge from all of the previous jobs I've had means that no experience ever goes to waste.

What motivates you to give back? I sometimes wish I had access to the confidence tools that I now teach, back in the day... but my personal growth journey allows me to feel what the students I support are going through, making me a better teacher and mentor.
