Rain showers was the theme of the day for our Tuesday get together. Slippery bowls, wet hair, damp cloths and 4 rain breaks.

Nevertheless , we managed to complete two more games in the Championship Club Singles.

First of all , Bloss played Lisa and what a game of two halves that was! Lisa looked to have it all wrapped up by 10 30am with a convincing and dominant lead of 23 to 6. But then something happened, don't know if it was the rain breaks, but Bloss came back. And what a comeback it was. Lisa was pegged at 23 for 9 ends while Bloss did her thing. Last 3 ends 23 to 22, 24 all , and then it came down to a measure for the win . Phew. What a game. Well done Bloss, and Lisa is still in shock.

Sue played May in the other showdown, and that one looked like it might go on til midnight, with scores being 1 for 1 for the majority of the game. May had a good lead by the 19th end leading Sue 20 to 14. Again, something happened. May struggled with wet hands and Sue got her mojo back, and came through to take the win.

In the social games , the rain showers restricted play for both games to 8 ends for both teams. Sherril P's team of Mel M and Kate B defeated Kerry D's team of Mel Mac and Sharon A 6 to 4

Kristine P, JM and Helen B defeated Gwynn P, Kristina B and Jenny A , 7 to 5.

The first day of spring today produced magnificent blue skies and a pleasant breeze for our Tuesday bowls session today.

Today we started the Club Singles Championship. Two games played. Firstly Sharon Allen played Amanda Hewitt. This was an up and down game for both players. Amanda flew out of the gates winning the first 5 ends convincingly. Then Sharon found her Mojo and pegged Amanda to 11 for the next 6 ends. By the 12th end there was just 4 in it, but Sharon was the eventual winner 25 to 18.

The other game saw Kate Baker pitted against Lyn Simmons. Lyn took 7 ends to get on the board, but was always on the back foot playing an in form Kate who won 25 to 10.

In the two social games, Quiggles, Sue H and Jen A had a good win over Kay Q, Helen B and Christina B. 18 to 8.

Judy S ( swing) Kristine P, JM and Bloss M beat Judy S, May E, Lisa F and Kerry D 17 to 12.

Happy 36th birthday to Sharon.

Finally , we had a visit from Melissa Siwicki and her Mum Leone , two lovely ladies from the Quiet Courage Foundation who put together support bags for people undergoing cancer treatments. This is the group we have chosen to donate all funds we raise from all our bowling exploits. We thank them wholeheartedly for all their fine efforts for all people in the Tweed hospital undergoing any cancer treatments.
We also presented two of these bags to two people from our club who are currently undergoing treatment.

Bruns Broomriders a go go.

Silly sock day today, with some mighty fine specimens dusted off from the bottom of the sock drawer. Kate was the clear winner, with Blossom sporting a look that was hard not to notice as runner up.

3 games today, played in very pleasant conditions.

Judy S, Lisa F, and Sharon A defeated May E, J Qiggles and Kerry D 16 to 11

Gwynn P, H Baker and Jen A just got the wood over Lyn S, Kristina B and Kerry D 14 to 13. A great contest.

Kate B, and Amanda H had it all over Kristine P and Lyn W 25 to 15. It took Lyns team 7 ends to make a mark but then launched with a 5, and got into the game, but Kate and Amanda's accuracy was hard to fault.

Brunswick Heads Women’s Bowls for Tuesday the 18th August was very overcast, but luckily no rain came to upset our morning. Our intrepid Publicity Officer is now back in the land of Oz, but has gotten a bug, so hopefully she will be back on board with us next week.

On Rink 4, G Parsons, K Berry & S Allen defeated K Quemard, L Bourke and L Fitzmaurice 17 to 8.
On Rink 5, K Baker & K Dexter won the game against L Butler & B McCormick 30 to 14.
On Rink 6, A Hewitt & M Essery won their game against K Pryor & H Baker 23 to 13.

Once again, thank you Kate for taking the photos today.

ALSO… for a bit of fun, we thought we would make next Tuesday the 25th “lairy” sock day. So bring out your coloured, your mismatched or whatever floats your boat socks. Hope to see a wide variation.

For anybody that is interested, try some bowls without getting sunburnt.

Women’s Social Bowls for the 11th August couldn’t have asked for better weather. The sky was so blue and the temperature was around 23ish. Not bad for a winters morning. Anyway now for the results…

On Rink 4: K Quemard, L Fitzmaurice & H Baker won 16 to D Holland, L Simons & M Essery’s 13.
On Rink 5: It was a draw. 13 points apiece and 9 games each on count back.
The team being L Butler (Swing), J Seamer, L Bourke & K Didier against L Butler (Swing), J Quigley, K Pryor & K Dexter.
On Rink 7: K Baker & B McCormick 26 defeated A Hewitt & J Andrew 13. (When asking for the card, Jenny told me it was in the bin,,,I wonder why?).

Thank you to Kate for taking the photos this week whilst our Publicity Officer is taking a nice little holiday on some exotic island.
PS. And the award for the most photographed bottom this week goes to Amanda.

What a stunner of a day today , for our memorial Margaret Darby day. We got out all the old bowls with their wide arcs and it was soooo much fun. We had all the usual goodies for morning tea , plus so many extras we were stuffed. Our visitors loved it all too. Margaret was looking down on us in the sunshine with a smile I am sure.

Sherril celebrated a birthday. And Kate got a resting toucher that just happened to be recorded!

3 games. All of them very close. No names of teams today as we drew paddlepop sticks. Kate's video of resting toucher follows this post.
