NORTH BROKEN HILL BOWLING CLUB REPORT

North pennant results Round Eight Sat 5th Sept 2026
The eighthround of the Silver City BA 2026-27 pennant season saw the visiting club Zinc bounce back after three successive defeats to narrowly win the colour by five shots. Zinc BHBC won three rinks while the home side North BHBC won two.
The match details were:
3 bowl Pairs: Jeff Rushforth’s team was defeated 18—29.
4 bowl Pairs: The Balman brothers, Peter and Stephen, also lost 13—18.
3 bowl Triples: Lou Garnaut’s team continued their winning form, 26—19.
2 bowl Triples: Graham Riley’s team lost narrowly 19—22.
Fours: Ryan Atkinson’s team scored a solid 24—17 victory.
For this pennant round North scored 4competition points Zinc 12; total shots North 100
Zinc 105.
The Progressive Totals after eight rounds are:
Competition points: North 62 Zinc 66.
Total shots: North 850Zinc 803.
Overall prize winners at the North BHBC: the winning team for the afternoon was the North BHBC social pairing of lead Brian Pascoe and his skip Dennis Cetinich. The consolation prize went to the Zinc BHBC three bowls triples lineup of lead Alan Fraser, second Noel Lane and their skip Tom Sladden. Resting touchers were attained by the Zinc BHBC duo, Cheryl Barry and Ken Hodge, which probably assisted in their narrow victory on the carpet.

Tuesday 8thSeptember 2026 social bowls
Splendid sunny 19 degrees weather saw 30 participants play two games on our club’s carpet green. There were two unbeaten teams which were skippered by Steve Cutting and Wayne Williams. The number 71 on the wheel was superb news for Wayne’s side which featured lead John Coffee and second Brian Pascoe. The consolation spin fell neatly for Zac Weekes and Bob Sultana who received some compensation after an unsuccessful time on the green. Kay Burns and Noel Lane attained one resting toucher each while Charlie Sultana mixed up his second last delivery of the afternoon to launch one wrong bias bowl.

Memorial Pairs Tournament Sun 20th Sept 2026
With at least 12 teams having nominated, this event will be going ahead after being postponed for one week. Play will commence at 9.30am, governed by a 2-4-2 format gives both team members a go at being lead as well as being skip. Four games of ten ends will be played. The cost per bowler is $15 which includes morning tea while participants can order pies and pasties for lunch at the bar. This is an open event with members from both the North and Zinc BC welcome to play.

North pennant results Round Seven Sat 29th August 2026
The seventh round of the Silver City BA 2026-27 pennant season saw some remarkable bowls played with two matches being drawn, North scoring two decisive victories, while losing narrowly on the remaining rink. The match details were:
3 bowl Pairs: Jeff Rushforth’s team fought out an enthralling draw 26--all.
4 bowl Pairs: The Balman brothers, Peter and Stephen, continued their dominance, winning 25--12
3 bowl Triples: Lou Garnaut’s team scored a massive victory 34--12.
2 bowl Triples: Peter Simons’ team fought all the way, losing narrowly 21—24.
Fours: Tyrone English’s side kept in the contest all the way through to draw 21—all.
For this pennant round North scored 12 competition points Zinc 4; total shots North 127
Zinc 95.
The Progressive Totals after seven rounds are:
Competition points: North 58 Zinc 54.
Total shots: North 750 Zinc 698.
Saturday social bowls at the North BHBC: twelve participants played two matches with the winning team being skippered by Lloyd Rawlins, whose constituents included Roma Catalig and Simon Tilthorpe.

Tuesday 1st September 2026 social bowls
Magnificent 25 degrees conditions coaxed an excellent roll up of 31 bowlers. The major prize was won by Alan Taylor’s triple, which featured second John Payne, while the lead duties were shared between G. Kellond and Bob Sultana. The consolation prize spin fell beautifully for Allan Fraser, Brian Pascoe and their skip Peter Balman. Wayne Williams and Brian Jones attained one resting toucher each, while Steve Cutting delivered one wrong bias bowl.

The fifth round of the Silver City BA 2026-27 pennant season saw the best contested pennant afternoon so far, with the away club, North BHBC, winning three of the five rinks. The details were:
3 bowl Pairs: Jeff Rushforth’s team won a decisive victory, 31—12.
4 bowl Pairs: Tyrone English’s team was defeated 8—17.
3 bowl Triples: Stephen Balman’s team scored a resounding victory 31—9.
2 bowl Triples: Lou Garnaut’s team was decisively defeated 18—35.
Fours: Ryan Atkinson’s side scored their best victory so far, 33—12.

3 bowl Pairs: Jeff Rushforth’s team were soundly defeated 14—30.
4 bowl Pairs: Stephen Balman’s team went down narrowly 13—15.
3 bowl Triples: Peter Simons’ team scored a resounding victory 22—5.
2 bowl Triples: Graham Riley’s team were convincingly defeated 17—28.
Fours: Ryan Atkinson’s side suffered a significant loss, 15—23.
For this pennant round North scored 2 competition points Zinc 14; total shots North 82

The third round of the Silver City BA 2026-27 pennant season saw the away club, North
BHBC only win one of the five rinks. The details were:
3 bowl Pairs: Jeff Rushforth’s team suffered a decisive loss 18--30
4 bowl Pairs: Peter Balman’s team also suffered a significant loss 11--27
3 bowl Triples: Peter Simons’ team were defeated 18--21
2 bowl Triples: Tyrone English’s team won in fine style 28—18.
Fours: Ryan Atkinson’s side suffered the narrowest of losses 15—16.
For this pennant round North scored 2 competition points Zinc 14; total shots North 90

No Competitive social bowls at the North: with 14 members away at the Zinc BC, the six—seven social bowlers didn’t pay any green fees.

Tuesday social bowls 4th August 2026
Thirty participants enjoyed the sunny conditions, taking up five rinks of three bowl triples.
Out of the ten sides, five finished undefeated, under their skips Kay Burns, Peter Balman, Peter Gageler, Bill Symons and Dennis Cetinich. The number 40 on the wheel was tremendous news for Bill’s team, which featured lead Barry Sladden and second Glenn Weekes. The consolation spin provided some compensation for Brian Pascoe, Lloyd Rawlins and their skip Peter Gageler. Kristian Sartori achieved the sole resting toucher, while Alan Taylor was astray with one wrong bias bowl.

The second round of the Silver City BA 2026-27 pennant season saw a major rebound in fortunes for the home North BHBC. The results for our club were:
3 bowl Pairs: Jeff Rushforth’s team won very narrowly 25--24
4 bowl Pairs: Stephen Balman’s team won decisively 19--10
3 bowl Triples: Peter Simons’ team also squeaked home 18--17
2 bowl Triples: Graham Riley’s team won convincingly 30--15
Fours: Ryan Atkinson’s side won quite significantly 28—18
For this pennant round North scored 16 competition points Zinc 0; total shots North 120
Zinc 84
The Progressive Totals after two rounds are:
Competition points: North 16 Zinc 16
Total shots: North 211 Zinc 206.

Saturday 25th July overall results
With 28 pennant bowlers and seven social bowlers playing, the overall winners were the North BHBC pennant side that featured lead Peter Balman and his brother Stephen as skip. The consolation prize fell nicely for Lloyd Rawlins’ triple which featured lead Charlie Sultana and second Brian Pascoe.

Generally pleasant, sunny, though a bit windy, 18 degrees conditions attracted an impressive attendance of 29 participants. Ten teams contested two matches over the afternoon. Only one combination survived unbeaten, which was Kay Burns’ side, which comprised lead Barry Sladden and second Steve Cutting. The consolation prize wheel favoured Lou Garnaut, Brian Pascoe and their skip Darren Brown. Stephen Balman attained the only resting toucher, while Denis Watts delivered the sole wrong bias delivery.

With fourteen North BHBC bowlers playing pennants at the Zinc BC, no more than eight participants turned up. Sensibly the club authorities decided not to have any official bowls for the afternoon.

The first round of the Silver City BA 2026-27 pennant season saw five rinks occupied at the Zinc BHBC. The results for the North BHBC were:
3 bowl Pairs: Jeff Rushforth’s team were defeated 23—29
4 bowl Pairs: Dennis Cetinich’s side narrowly lost 18—19
3 bowl Triples: Peter Balman’s team went down 15—17
2 bowl Triples: Tyrone English’s combination lost 21—28
Fours: Ryan Atkinson’s side were defeated 14—29
The overall totals were:
Competition points: North 0 Zinc 16
Total shots: North 91 Zinc 122.

Delightful, sunny and calm 21 degrees conditions encouraged a tremendous attendance of 30 participants who occupied five rinks on our club’s carpet green. There were only two undefeated teams, under the charge of skips Barry Ho**er and Peter Merritt. An odd number on the wheel was excellent news for Barry’s side which comprised lead John Coffey and second Glenn Weekes. The consolation spin fell nicely for Kay Burns’ team, which featured lead Kris Hunter and second Denis Watts. There were five resting touchers attained during the afternoon, with Tony Brown achieving two, while singles were scored by Bill Symons, Alan Fraser and Phil Billman. Wrong biases were delivered by Alan Taylor and Brian Jones.

Reasonably pleasant 17 degrees conditions attracted 20 participants. The winning team on the afternoon was Barry Ho**er’s pairs’ combination with Alan Taylor as his lead.

Tuesday social bowls 14thJuly2026
Quite calm, yet cool conditions saw 22 social bowlers occupy four rinks on our club’s carpet green. The only unbeaten side for the day was Peter Gageler’s team which featured lead Jenny Garnaut, who helped out with two resting touchers, while Ken Hodge and Ken Hodge achieved one each. There was a high number of wrong bias deliveries with Charlie Sultana (2), with singles from Lloyd Rawlins and Denis Watts.

Saturday social bowls 4th July2026
A cold, cloudy to overcast afternoon restricted attendees to twelve. The winning team was skippered by Wayne Williams, with Jenny Garnaut being his second, with Charlie and Bob Sultana sharing Wayne’s lead duties.

Tuesday social bowls 7th June 2026
A much more pleasant day with mainly sunny conditions resulted in an impressive turnout of 26 participants, who occupied five rinks on our club’s carpet green. Out of the ten teams competing, only two finished unbeaten. These were under the auspices of skips Barry Ho**er and Peter Gageler. The number one on the wheel was spot on news for Gag’s team which featured second Alan Taylor, with Charlie and Bob Sultana, again successfully sharing the lead’s duties. The consolation prize saw good fortune for Alan Fraser, Peter Simons and their skip Wayne Williams. There were three resting touchers with Dennis Cetinich, Brian Pascoe and Alan Fraser achieving one each. Brian Jones and Denis Watts had a lapse of concentration with one wrong bias delivery each.
