Introducing the Nadgee Wanderer ( Thanks CD)
Initially we built the Roaring 40 but in the design process for the hull the designer over looked a mistake in the hull design and it was back to the drawing board .
We sent off all the information to people in the know both here in Australia and in the USA in ours search for a better design .The feed back we received was good , very good in fact so we went forward and had a foam plug cut on a CNC machine .I used the same deck as the Roaring 40 as its the new bench mark in what a sea kayak deck should provide .
Rather than keep the hard chine's, I rounded off the chine's ( softened ) bow and stern areas , really giving it the once over to ensure it was safe to be built
As always the hull is the unknown till you really get it on the water which I did just last Saturday in a 13 km race on the Nelligan River at Batemans Bay .
Paddling into the last of an out going tide , especially where we started as it really funnels in hard under the Bridge , only to get too the turn around mark and the tide turned as well so back into again , boats , wind and jet skis made for a very realistic test .
I also had the flu for the last week as well so I wasn't at 100% either
8.9 km average for the race was excellent I feel .( timed )
The Wanderer has everything a kayaker needs.
Long water line length with plumb bow for faster speeds
Stable
Handles excellently with out rudder
Tow points X 2
Comfortable foam and adjustable seat and back band
Set up for sailing with side stays and back stays in place
Recessed deck fitting for paddle leash
Compass recess
Vinyl ester resin
Recessed rudder when in the up position ( why do manufacturers put those rudders that only go up in the air beats me )
Deep rudder draught when down with 29 cm of rudder below the actual hull
Taped seams inside and external
Channels and slots to drain unwanted water from hatch areas
The deck is shaped in a way that it adds strength rather than just a flat or rounded surface as well as everything is recessed in such a way that if you exit your boat in the surf everything is protected to save damage .
This is truly a unique design, my test boat in fibreglass cloth came in at 22kg and I over used material .The unique deck shape has lots of inherent strength due to its shaping .
Here's some images of my test boat , she is dirty and used and was built in a hurry to confirm everything so don't be too picky with the details as we will be building a demo boat very quickly to show off the Wanderer ..
And price wise
In standard trim in fibreglass cloth and double bias hull its $3550 just under $1000 dollars cheaper than other Australian made plumb bow boats .
And truly a unique design , one I'm very excited about ..get on board
