The Jacana Football Club was founded in 1961, as a junior club fielding an Under 15s team. In 1965 the senior club was established and fielded teams in every age group. The Jacana Pavilion was then opened on the 9th July, 1966, by the Mayor J.A. Culpin. The original Jacana jumper was purple with a yellow JFC monogram. The club then changed to a gold V which was used up to 2006. In 2007 the club re

verted back to the original jumper. From 1986 to 2000 Jacana participated in the Riddell District Football League and won its 3rd senior premiership in 2000 defeating Wallan 14.12.96 to 11.11.77. Jacana has competed in various competitions including the Y.C.W competition, the Northern Metropolitan Football League and the Preston and District Junior Football Association. In the early 1990s, Jacana’s senior club became the Broadmeadows United Football Club, and their jumper changed to purple with a yellow vee. Then in 1997 the club went back to the name of Jacana Football Club, whilst keeping the purple and yellow vee jumper up until the end of 2006. In 2001 the club became affiliated for the first time with the Essendon District Football League. The junior teams are now called the Jaguars and their jumpers are purple and yellow with a jaguar monogram, and are known as the Jacana Jaguars.

With the Brisbane Lions heading into the Grand Final this week, we remember the great deeds of former Jacana player, and triple Brisbane Lions premiership star, Chris Johnson. On Saturday, there will be a hint of Jacana on the hallowed MCG turf representing the Lions in the form of Ty Gallop, grandson of Jacana legend, Steve Gallop. Ty's father Joel also proudly wore the famous purple and gold.
Chris' father, Lloyd Johnson, and Steve both played in the 1980 Jacana Premiership team 45 years ago. It looks like the premiership stars could be aligning once again for the Lions πŸ†
Good luck Ty!
Go Lions 🦁

This kid has played five AFL games.

His sixth could be a premiership.

Ty Gallop had just one career goal entering the preliminary final, but was BEST-ON-GROUND in a stunning statement game to prove "he belongs".

In Loving Memory of Gary Webb

With heavy hearts, we mourn the loss of one of our own, Gary Webb, who recently passed away. While Gary is widely celebrated for his remarkable achievements in cricket, it's important to recognize his equally impressive talent and dedication to football within our club. He began his journey in the junior ranks, displaying raw talent that set him apart from the rest.

Gary's football journey took him from the underage sides to our senior team, where his skills and passion shone brightly. One of the crowning moments of his football career was being part of the legendary 1972 premiers and champions under 17 team. Many still regard this team as the best junior squad to have ever represented our beloved Jacana Football Club. Gary's contributions were invaluable, and his spirit undoubtedly played a pivotal role in the team's success.

Beyond his athletic prowess, Gary will be remembered for the warmth he brought to our club. His friendly smile, caring nature, and sportsmanship were contagious, leaving an indelible mark on everyone he met. He wasn't just a player; he was a friend and an inspiration to all.

In this difficult time, our hearts and thoughts go out to Gary's family. May they find strength in the love and memories shared by the entire Jacana Football Club community.

Let us honour Gary's legacy by continuing to foster the sense of camaraderie, teamwork, and respect that he exemplified. Though he may no longer be with us, his spirit lives on in the very fabric of our club.

Rest in peace, Gary. You will always be a cherished member of the Jacana Football Club family.

With deepest sympathy,

The Jacana Football Club Community
