The Bench Press is a compound exercise which targets your chest and triceps when performed properly. With the chest muscle being the primary muscle and triceps being the secondary muscle worked during this movement. Your shoulders and core muscles are also activated during this movement which also helps stabilises you through this movement.

Gone are the days when 280kg deadlift was done for reps on a weekly basis and 300kg deadlift was the goal, you know, the BIG 3️⃣0️⃣0️⃣!

Yeah, back then what you squatted, benched and deadlifted, did mattered, at least I thought! Haha

Sadly, I didn’t get to the BIG 3️⃣0️⃣0️⃣, the most I did, was 1x1 @ 290kg! Which isn’t so bad, but it ain’t 3️⃣0️⃣0️⃣! 😆

I remember I used to train twice a day, 6-7 days a week, ate a whole lot of food, had 6-8 hours sleep most nights and I made progress on a weekly basis, fun times!😊

Fast forward three years later, I still train but just not as committed to my craft, I have not been for the last eighteen months or more, but that’s a story for another day.

Having frequency incorporated into my training, (meaning hitting each muscle more than once a week) has definitely changed my physique for the better!
-
For years I thought my physique couldn't get any better than what it was naturally, how wrong was I!. -
We all go through that plateau stage at some point in our training career, and that's why it's important to have your training program updated every 4-5 weeks rather than doing the same thing week in weeks out.

Meet my man Quintin, Quintin is 7 days out from the Arnold classic, and ironically he's chasing his pro card! Last year he only just missed out, finishing second at both shows so this year, we are aiming to turn things around and have a much better outcome. Since taking over and making some adjustment to his nutrition, I have seen his physique get better day by day and I can't wait to turn it up a notch leading into peak week. -
-
Quintin reached out to me a few weeks ago to guide him through the final stages of his prep, he being a coach himself and being down this road before has made coaching him so much easier as he truly understands the process and what is required of him. -
My aim for Quintin is to get him conditioned enough to secure 🥇 at the qualifier but not losing sight of the main event!. -
-
As we all know, being at your best and maintaining your best weeks out from your main event it's almost impossible, I learned that the hard way last year with my own shows and I don't want to make the same mistake with Quintin. -
-
Keep working my man only 7more sleeps before you're kicking ass and eating a burger that you have rightfully owned. 👊🏿🙌🏿💪🏾

What if I told you there’s a lot more to protein than just how much you eat?
-
While your total daily intake is important, keep in mind that there is only so much your body can use/process at any given time, therefore spreading your protein throughout the day, and around your sessions will help prompt the muscle growth you desire.

One of my favourite upper body exercises is the incline barbell press, this exercise targets your pec major, deltoids and triceps when performed properly. -
you will notice in this video I got my scapula retracted at all times this is to give me full contraction through my lift and put the targeted muscles under good stress.
-
If you're struggling to retract your scapula during your lift, then you need to drop your weight and focus on retracting your scapula before progressing. -
You will also notice that I got my core activated, Im inhaling through my nose and exhaling through my mouth, this is to give me stability through my lift. -
Apply this method to your benching and you will see a tremendous improvement in your bench and feel your pecs actually being worked. -
