A stable pressing position isn’t just about what happens once the bar is over your chest, it’s about what happens before and during the unrack
When working with Amy, we realized that her leg drive was being lost during the unrack and as she planted her hips. She was creating force, but it wasn’t being directed efficiently, leading to a wobbly unrack and unstable reps
By cueing Amy to maintain pressure through her toes before and during the unrack, we ensured that the force her leg drive was creating was directed exactly where we wanted it.
The Result:
✅ A solid, stable unrack
✅ Stronger reps
At the end of the day, Amy has a strong bench press with her best being 100kg, so sometimes it’s not about reinventing the wheel with cues but coming back to the basics and not being complacent
