What a smile eh?! Well done to Tony on some great shooting today. Still wrapping up his beginner course here at Mt Petrie Bowmen in Brisbane, but most definitely on his way to a goal of starting club level competition.
The relatable skills between rifle shooting and archery are really paying off.

The excitement is building after the announcement of the Gold Coast 2027 World Archery Para Championships, and it's a great opportunity for our Aussie athletes.

Para archer Tom Holland-Roach on competing at the championships in the Gold Coast: “As the qualification event for LA28, a home championship with a home crowd and a big team will allow us to establish our position as front and centre at LA28, before continuing this momentum into Brisbane 2032.”

We look forward to welcoming the global para archery community to the Gold Coast and cheering on our Aussie athletes!! ✨

Home games! What an awesome moment for Para Archery in Australia

ANNOUNCEMENT: Australia to host the 2027 World Archery Para Championships for the first time

Archery Australia has won the right to host the 2027 World Archery Para Championships right here on the Gold Coast!

Supported by the Queensland Government through Tourism and Events Queensland, the Gold Coast 2027 World Archery Para Championships will be the pinnacle event for Para Archers around the world, and showcase Queensland as a World Class sporting destination ahead of the 2032 Paralympic Games.

The championships will bring the world’s best para archers to Australian soil for a week of competition across recurve and compound, in the open, W1 and visually impaired categories.

📅 30 August – 6 September 2027
📍 Gold Coast Performance Centre and Broadwater Parklands QLD

This event will also be a qualification for the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games, making this one of the most important events on the road to LA28 and preparation for Brisbane 2032.

Dan is still continuing to work hard at the range. Today he was working on the finer details of how to arrive behind the peep. 🔍

On a compound bow, when we line up the peep, the scope, and the target, if everything else is correct, this produces good groups of arrows in the centre of the target.

Dan is nearly at the two year mark after having a stroke. Fighting hard through his recovery and making great strides. 🏆
Because of the stroke, he shoots with a home made shoulder harness and a trigger made by GX4 Adaptive Archery.

A big welcome to Tony (and his amazing wife Kerry)!
Tony comes from a background of rifle shooting and boccia. We met at the recent Green and Gold event held at Nissan Arena where he had a go at shooting with a left handed shoulder harness.

Today he shot right handed and had a blast, shooting several arrows in the centre. Looking forward to catching up again next week Tony.

Congratulations to Mark on his first QRE tournament today. He said "Hold my beer!" and shot two QREs today, the second one shot in the rain, with an even bigger score than the first.

Only four months into archery and his shooting is coming along nicely. Every day learning something new.

(Note, No beer was consumed today 😉)

Keeping you all in the loop on the range!

Our mate Marcus is half way through his beginner course here at Mt Petrie Bowmen in Chandler. We've stretched our distance out to 8 metres now, and poundage is up to 10lb!

Marcus has now figured out how to load the shoulder harness trigger by himself, absolutely unstoppable. His carer Hamish and I can now sit back and relax 😂

Along with shooting at the range, we get opportunities to offer new sports to people, like the Bupa Australia and Australian Paralympic Team Multi-Sport Come and Try days currently being held around the country.

This is a short video of a lovely young lady named Abbey, who is a quad amputee. She also plays trombone!

She got to try out a shoulder harness (and I acted as her front arm for the day), and had an absolute blast.

We loved seeing such supportive parents and carers come through with the young athletes, and met some amazing providers in the disability industry.

Thank you to Alex, Emily, Amanda and Taymon for their support today! It makes these events so much fun for everyone. Today we met 45 new athletes and 18 signed up for more info!
