Our Pilates program has been developed with the early childhood curriculum and child development in mind by our founder and Child Development Accredited Exercise Physiologist, Liz Dawson. We have been visiting childcare centers and Kindergartens across QLD since 2010 and we are so passionate about what we do! We are now offering Courses for Allied Health Professionals and Early Childhood Educators to help promote our mission. Our courses are all self paced, online and you can sign up at any time. Learn about how all key areas of development are impacted by one another and how to modify exercises to make them powerful for child development.

Five things most people believe about kids and movement that are genuinely holding children back.

Myth 1: Kids get enough exercise at school.

Reality: 78% of Australian children do not meet physical activity guidelines. Unstructured play is important, it is not enough on its own.

Myth 2: If a child is clumsy, they just need to grow out of it.

Reality: Gross motor delays rarely self-resolve without targeted support. Early intervention changes outcomes.

Myth 3: Exercise Physiology is for adults and athletes.

Reality: EPs are trained to deliver evidence-based movement programs for all ages including children with developmental delays and NDIS funding.

Myth 4: My child hates exercise so movement therapy will not work.

Reality: Children who 'hate exercise' usually hate the environments they have been put in. Our sessions are designed for children who have struggled.

Myth 5: You need a referral to come to Kids Heart Pilates.

Reality: You do not. Which myth surprised you most? Drop it in the comments.

Tweens and teens are the most underserved age group in paediatric movement therapy and arguably the age group that needs it most.

🩷 Posture: Screen time, heavy school bags, and rapid growth are creating posture issues we are seeing earlier and more severely than ever before.

🩷 Confidence: Body confidence in adolescence is directly linked to physical competence. Movement programs that build competence build confidence.

🩷 Sport performance: The teen who wants to play football but keeps getting injured. The swimmer whose times plateau. Or those athletes that are being held back in performance due to lack of strenght. Often a movement efficiency issue that EP assessment can address. Teen athletes NEED STRENGTH.

🩷 Stress and anxiety: Physical movement is one of the most evidence-based interventions for adolescent anxiety. It is under-prescribed.

🩷 Body awareness: Teens who understand how their body works make better choices, in sport, in everyday movement, and in managing their own health. Teen spots available, link in bio to register.

Proprioception is your body's internal GPS, it tells you where your body is in space without looking.

Sign 1 - your child bumps into things, leans on furniture, or crashes into people. Not clumsiness, their proprioceptive system is seeking input

Sign 2 - they grip a pencil too hard, press too firmly when writing, or break things accidentally.

Sign 3 - they struggle with personal space, do not understand how hard they are hugging, or seem unaware of their own strength.

Sign 4 - they chew on clothing, pencils, or their sleeve. Oral proprioception seeking.

Sign 5 - they love jumping, crashing, and heavy work. This is regulation through movement.

We are so thrilled to have Tara Ewart to join our team.

Tara believes that children have an inherent drive to move, play, and explore, and her approach centres on tapping into this natural energy to support their growth and development. She fosters engaging, play-based sessions that meet each child where they are, using movement as a tool to build not only physical capacity, but also confidence and connection. Whether it’s running, jumping, climbing, or transforming a child’s favourite games and interests into meaningful therapy, Tara uses what kids already love to help them build skills, confidence, and a positive relationship with movement. She is passionate about creating positive early experiences with movement so children are more likely to engage, develop, and truly thrive.

This is one of the most common things we hear from parents.

'He cannot sit still.'
'She cannot concentrate.'
'The teacher says he is disruptive.'

And in almost every case, by the time a child is visibly struggling with focus, there has been a physical story unfolding for months, sometimes years.
