Ever wonder what life was like in the Byzantine Empire? Rusland is a Byzantine medieval living history group, bringing the late 12th century to life. Our members portray a wide cross-section of Byzantine society, from soldiers manning the frontier, to the dancing girls of the Imperial court, and all the colourful characters in between.
Byzantine reenactment offers an opportunity to explore medieval archaeology and history in a hands on way - whether that’s learning archery, sewing garments, working with metal and leather, mastering a Greek lute, attempting dubious ancient recipes, or experiencing the rhythms of life within an immersive medieval camp.
Come along to a Saturday training or join us for a monthly craft night and see what we’re all about!

This weekend some of NVG-Rusland attended a beginner pottery workshop. This was a great chance to learn a new skill and hopefully create some usable items. Much fun was had. Thanks so much to Michelle at in2clay.

Reminder that training resumes on Saturday 26th July, 2pm at Fletcher Parade, Bardon.
If wet weather occurs, we will still be meeting at the nearest covered table and chairs to the left of our usual spot (for specific directions please send a message).

NVG Rusland had a great weekend at Abbey Medieval Festival. Our updated camp layout attracted much more public engagement.
Great displays in camp with our coin striking and new musical instrument demonstrations.
We look forward to meeting any new recruits when training resumes on the 26th July 2pm at Fletcher Parade, Bardon.

NVG Rusland Garrison was at Abbey Medieval Festival earlier this month.
It was great to engage with so many of the public, especially those who braved the less than ideal weather conditions on Saturday and Sunday. We thoroughly enjoyed our combat displays, and we thank the fine people from NEMAS, Rognvald's Lith, and Blackpool who stood with and against us over the weekend.
If you’re interested in what we do and would like to take up imperial service, we train on Saturdays at 2pm, Fletcher Parade, Bardon.
