Heels 👠
Let’s get straight to this point.
The intention behind my class comes from a place of loving yourself, loving your body, being confident in who YOU are.
Dancing in heels is NOT bad.
At AIM we strive to be “Sassy Classy” during classes and students are reminded throughout the sessions that great technique is really what dancing in heels is all about.
There is nothing wrong with being feminine, using your hips and having a rounded line. Strength, alignment and length are needed to support the heel. It is all about technique. It is never about being sexy. It is about the art form. We do not teach the mentality of “good or bad boy/girl” in the studio.
Dancing in heels does not mean you are “bad”. At AIM, we teach boys and girls to have respect for themselves and respect for their art. Dancing in heels is story telling, just like all the other styles of dance.
Somewhere along the way, boys and girls have been told not to move a certain way because it’s “bad” and they have been shamed about it.
That can be very damaging.
There is nothing wrong with owning your movements when the intention behind the movement is one of self-confidence.
With that said, here’s our take on a Level 2 - Heels class. As you can see, to be able to do this routine, you are required to have upper body strength and be able to carry your own body weight. This routine has plenty of weight transitions. You are required to engage your core, arms and shoulders - all the while dancing a routine. NOT. EASY.
Let’s share some love and encouragement to our ladies who unapologetically expressed themselves
