20 Years.

June 16th 2006 I opened the very first Bonsai Karate class in a squash court in Stafford Heights. I was 26 years old.

We only lasted 4 weeks in the squash court and then moved into the uniting church on Rode and Gympie road.

Around 10 months later we started classes at Aspley East SS and have been running classes there ever since.

I always said I would get a Bonsai Kanji tattoo if I made 20 years.

I am thankful for all of the support over the past 20 years. To all of the 1000’s of students from today and the past, thank you. I might have taught you to punch and kick, but I learnt something valuable from each of you also, I learnt about myself.

Over the years the changes have been great. When we started Bonsai our style of karate much more closely resembled Shotokan, we have moved now nearly fully into Kyokushin because of the guidance from my mentor Kancho James Casey. I thank you for all you have done to help me and help shape our karate into what it is today.

Kettle bell workouts are a great way to build strength for karate.
It develops lung capacity, core strength; punching and kicking power.

Have you been doing some workouts on the break?

Keep pushing, see you in a few weeks.

P.s. I tried to cut my own hair and it went poorly, hence the shaved head.
