Body posture, reactions, eye movement and gestures make up over 50% of our communication language...and these can easily be over looked in very young babies as they live life through whole body movements and responses.
When it comes to some traditional teaching methods, the focus can be more on “doing the submersion” rather than observing the child - and that's when these body responses are easy to miss in a busy class, sometime with set lesson plans and expectations.
Julie, Zara and Aqua Education advocate a completely child-centric approach, which we have shared and seen many teachers embracing ~ we look at readiness, trust, movement, and the child’s own participation in the experience.
We know that many teachers were never shown another way, either within their initial training or when thoughts changed many years ago to a more holistic approach ~ and that’s why self-education and development matters.
When we begin to understand the subtle signs babies give us, our teaching changes… and so does the child’s experience in the water.
