Join me in congratulating Baysider Simon Steenland OAM on being awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in the 2026 King’s Birthday Honours for his outstanding service to youth and sailing.

For decades, Simon has been a driving force behind South Passage, founding and shaping an organisation that has transformed the lives of thousands of young Queenslanders. Through adventure, teamwork and leadership at sea, South Passage has given generations of young people the confidence, resilience and life skills to navigate challenges both on and off the water.

Simon’s contribution has been extraordinary. His passion for creating opportunities for young people has left a lasting legacy across our community and beyond. Thank you Simon for your years of service, dedication and commitment. 👏

⚓️ South Passage Sail & Walk 2026 – What an Adventure! ⚓️

South Passage's annual 7-Day Sail & Walk Adventure Under Sail was an outstanding success!

With perfect weather, fair winds, and an incredible crew and group of passengers, we explored some of North Queensland's most spectacular destinations. From the breathtaking waterways of Hinchinbrook Island to the pristine shores of Orpheus Island and Dunk Island, this voyage showcased places that can only truly be experienced from the sea.

Beginning and ending at the beautiful Magnetic Island, the week was filled with sailing, adventure, friendship, and unforgettable memories.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make this voyage so special. Your support helps South Passage continue its important mission of sail training and empowering young people through adventure under sail.

⛵️✨ What a stunning voyage so far on our annual Sail & Walk Adventure! 🌴☀️

We’ve already explored the beautiful shores of Magnetic Island 🏝️ and Orpheus Island 🌊, and we’re continuing our journey north towards the tropical paradise of Dunk Island 🌺.

Still to come is the spectacular Hinchinbrook Island 🥾🌿, with its breathtaking scenery, crystal-clear waters, and unforgettable walking experiences.

Thankyou to our passengers, and volunteers who came aboard for our 5-day Whitsunday sailing voyage! ⚓⛵️

This was one for the general public, and what a voyage it turned out to be — fair winds, great company, plenty of hands-on sailing, learning the ropes, and exploring some truly spectacular anchorages along the way.

One of the highlights of the trip was Harbo’s legendary Shindig at Cape Upstart with his family — good times, great hospitality, and memories made under the stars. 🌊🔥

From hauling lines to sharing stories on deck, it was an adventure to remember.

South Passage on its Whitsunday sailing voyage left Queens Bay at Bowen this morning, heading for a special shore excursion at Cape Upstart.

The crew will enjoy a beachside shack BBQ dinner, karaoke, and plenty of laughs. Our superstar volunteer, Dave Harbinson, organised this special event with his friends who live there.
