Beyond the Map: December in the Himalayas

The Everest Base Camp trek is often described as a test of grit, but the real magic is in the quiet moments. It’s the rhythm of your boots on the trail, the warmth of a teahouse after a long day, and the perspective you gain when you’re standing in the shadow of the world’s tallest peaks.

I'm finalizing our group for the December 2026 "Best of Both Worlds" expedition, and I’m looking for trekkers who value preparation and community as much as they value the view.

The Route: The classic Jiri path, plus the magic of Gokyo Lakes and Cho La Pass.

The Approach: Fully escorted, expertly led, and thoughtfully paced to prioritize your safety and enjoyment.

Nepal Flood Relief Update:

The Trigger: On August 26, 2026, a major glacial section sheared off Langtang Lirung, triggering a devastating ice-and-rock avalanche into the valley below

The Impact: The collapse generated a massive torrent of mud and rock debris that swept through the Trishuli, Bhote Koshi, and Lhende Khola river valleys

Infrastructure and Settlements: Essential infrastructure across the Rasuwa district—including hydropower installations, bridges, roads, and border communities—suffered extensive destruction or was submerged under bedrock and sludge

We want to express our deepest gratitude to everyone who supported our ongoing relief efforts for the flood victims in Nepal. Whether you bought items from our pop-up shop or made a direct contribution, your overwhelming generosity has made a meaningful impact. While media coverage shows distressing imagery, ground reports indicate the situation is 100 times worse, leaving many communities in desperate need of ongoing support.

How Your Donations Are Being Used:

- $2,000 for Educational Supplies: Purchasing essential educational materials for local children

- $500 for Immediate Relief in the Langtang Valley: Contributing to direct food drops containing staples like rice, potatoes, and cooking oil.

On-the-Ground Context:

The Langtang Valley region is currently cut off from access and relies heavily on trekking to sustain local families. Alarmingly, local reports note that international news outlets have used vital helicopter resources to fly into devastated areas to interview traumatized children, only to depart without offering practical assistance.

Your contributions go beyond financial aid—they offer a vital message of hope and solidarity to those navigating this crisis. Please keep the people of Nepal in your thoughts and hearts during this difficult recovery process. I will share further updates as we receive them.

Turning Anger into Action: Nepal Flood Relief UPDATE

Thank you to everyone who shopped and donated at the yoga co-operative pop-up yesterday and today. We've raised over $1200 and will keep going until everything is sold. Our pop-up shop is only open before and after studio classes. For small donations ($10 is plenty) I can send you my bank details. If you know me, you’ll already get that I’m solid, boring, dependable and stubborn, and I’ll ensure that every $ raised (+) will get delivered boots on ground to where it’s most needed ASAP.

If you have friends and family looking to do something tangible, I would recommend the NZ Himalayan Trust (established by the original boots on ground man of action Sir Ed Hillary). I’ve worked with them on various projects across several decades and they're rock solid. Whilst their major focus is on the Everest region, they have already mobilised help to the affected areas.

Turning Anger into Action: Nepal Flood Relief - A Message from Heather & The Yoga Co-operative

In the wake of the devastating flood disaster in Nepal—a tragedy that is sadly not unexpected and very much man-made —we are channeling our sorrow and frustration into immediate, direct support. 100% of all sales proceeds from our Nepal Pop-Up Shop will be matched dollar-for-dollar by me personally and sent directly to where help is most urgently needed on the ground: re-supplying books, learning tools, and teaching aids to the schools and children across impacted villages. I will continue to be angry on behalf of these resilient communities, and I commit to turning that anger into tangible action whenever I am in Nepal. In the meantime, let us remember the power of Dolly’s legacy—that literacy, stories, and education hold the transformative power to rebuild lives and nurture hope, even in the hardest of times.

Conscious Rest: Your Invitation to Stillness

Imagine it’s Saturday afternoon in a few weeks' time. You’ve finished your errands, the "Saturday things" are all done, and the next two hours are dedicated entirely to you experiencing bliss.

At The Yoga Co-operative, we invite you to step away from the noise and join Chantal Roelofs for an immersion into deep healing.

Why Yoga Nidra?

In our fast-paced lives, our nervous systems are often permanently "switched on," braced for the next task. Yoga Nidra, or "yogic sleep," is a powerful meditative technique that guides you into the hypnagogic state—the liminal space between waking and sleeping. Here, the mind finally loosens its grip, and the body can access a state of restoration so profound that just one hour is often compared to four hours of deep sleep.

The Experience

This two-hour workshop is designed as one continuous arc of relaxation. We will begin by gently easing into our bodies with a short meditation and a down-regulating Slow Flow/Yin Yoga practice. This prepares the system to settle into a 45-minute guided Yoga Nidra.

To ground you before you head back into the world, we will finish our afternoon with warm chai and light nourishment.
