https://events.humanitix.com/uq-tennis-club-ladies-doubles-tournament

The aim is to provide a light-hearted yet competitive event that’s perfect for players of all levels, particularly if they have never played a tournament before. Coaching support will be available on the day to assist with match play. Whether a regular fixtures player or a social hitter, this is a fun-filled event not to be missed!

The tournament will use the Doubles Surprise format. Although it's a doubles tournament, players enter individually. Players will be randomly paired through a public draw and assigned to a court for their first match. After each round, winners move up a court, losers move down a court, and partners are reshuffled for the next match – keeping things dynamic and social! As play progresses, the better players will gradually make their way towards the top court. Games won and games lost will be recorded for each player and their match ratios calculated to identify the top-performing players.

After the matches, there will be light snacks on the clubhouse verandah, prizes for the standout players, and a few lucky draw prizes to wrap up the morning.

UQ LADIES' DOUBLES TOURNAMENT

27 players participated in the UQ Tennis Club’s first Ladies’ Doubles Tournament for 2026 which was played last Sunday morning, 30 August.

This was a fun tournament format in which all players were paired initially through a random draw and allocated to a ranked numbered court for the first match. After each match, the winners moved up a court and the losers moved down a court. Players then switched partners for the next match. Everybody got around six one-set matches for the morning and got to play with & against a variety of players. Games won and games lost were recorded for each player and their match ratios calculated.

The aim was to provide a light-hearted yet competitive event that was perfect for players of all levels, particularly if they have never played a tournament before. Coaching support was available on the day and coaching was provided on the bottom court where there were insufficient players for a match.

After the matches, there were snacks on the clubhouse verandah, prizes for the standout players, and a few lucky draw prizes to wrap up the morning.

The winners of the last match on the top court were Siyan Baxter & April Tang who defeated Helen Woodhouse & Bianca Zhang 6-1. The players with the best match ratios were April Tang (3.00), Siyan Baxter (2.23), Juliane Wolf (1.64), Gab Edmonds (1.63) and Bianca Zhang (1.40)

The Lucky Prize Draw winners were Denaye Eldershaw, Genevieve Groves, Alina Jiang and Samantha Miller.

A second Ladies’ Doubles Tournament will be played on Sunday morning, 20 September. Entries close on 17 September.

Registration and pre-payment of the $10 entry fee is required:

These two tournaments are supported by an MRA Affiliates Grant from the Tennis Queensland Metropolitan Regional Assembly.
