In the 7th century BC, the Spartans wanted to create the strongest and most mentally tough citizens on earth. To do this, they created the Agoge (pronounced A-Go-Ge), a system of training that became the envy of the known world. At the Agoge we aspire to brings this same philosophy via the modern martial art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, which provides as much of a mental challenge as it does a physical. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art which proved its effectiveness during the early UFC's and has now evolved to include self defense, grappling competitions and MMA. At the Agoge we aim to provide a fun, safe and cooperative environment where anybody can learn the most effective martial art

🥋 New Coach Announcement! 🥋

We're super excited to welcome Professor Antonio Martins — a 3rd Deg Black Belt with over 23 years of Jiu-Jitsu experience — to the coaching team at The Agoge!

Professor Antonio trained under legends including Ricardo "Kiko" Velloso, Carlos "Manimal," and Alexandre "Gigi" Paiva, and brings serious competition pedigree to the mats:

Professor Antonio has just started teaching our Adults Advanced No-Gi classes, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6–7pm.

​Steve brings a wealth of knowledge to the mats as a BJJ Brown Belt and a qualified Physiotherapist, meaning you’ll get top-tier technical instruction with a smart, injury-conscious approach to movement.
