🌞 It was our pleasure this morning to host a practice session for the CAQ Golf Croquet Reserve Squad, expertly led by the always entertaining Murray Tinker from Caloundra Mallet Sports Club and supported by the wealth of experience of Dick Byres from Bribie Island Croquet Club. 🎯

Our own Graham Young took the opportunity to showcase some of McIlwraith’s recent “improvers” including our dew brooms, compost bins and thriving member herb garden 🌿♻️.

Sharing knowledge, strengthening skills and building our croquet community is always a pleasure. Thank you to everyone who donned our courts for a morning of learning and connection! 🤝🏏💚

🏆 And the winner of the Bucket is … Anne Barry! 🪣🎉

What a fantastic final this morning, with Anne overcoming Jeffrey Searle in a closely contested best-of-three match, winning 2 games to 1. 👏

A special highlight was having Peter Nicholson himself on hand to present the prized Bucket, while referee Penny Jackson kept a watchful eye on proceedings. 👀

Congratulations to Anne, and well played to Jeffrey for a gallant effort in a terrific final. 👏👏

A big thank you to all 16 competitors who stepped up to take part this year and Club Captain Andrew Cole for coordinating. The Bucket Competition is a wonderful way to build confidence, improve our games, and put all those new player development learnings into practice. 🎯🏑

Well done everyone! 🌟

🏆 There are trophies….and then there’s McIlwraith’s bucket!! 🪣

The Peter Nicholson Bucket Competition is one of McIlwraith’s most treasured events, initiated by one of our revered club leaders and respected national competitor, Peter Nicholson.

Open to players with handicaps of 9 and above, this year’s competition has attracted an impressive 16 entrants (many shown below with Club Captain Andrew Cole at centre). Even more exciting, some competitors have only been members for a few months — a fantastic example of members stepping up, giving it a go and embracing the spirit of the game. 👏

Tomorrow’s best-of-three final promises to be a cracker, with Anne Barry taking on Jeffrey Searle for the coveted Bucket! 🪣

Good luck to both finalists. If you’re at the club, this is definitely a match worth watching! 🍀🎯

What a perfect day for Pennants at the beautiful Merthyr Croquet Club! ☀️🏑💚

Our Division 2 team took on Merthyr and came away with the win. Well done Alan Stone, Andrew Cole, Annette Horne, Lesley Stabler and Jenny O’Reilly!🏆👏

Adding to the charm and hospitality of the day was a gallery of McIlwraith supporters cheering on from the sidelines 📣 plus a watchful family of curlews, now very much in residence at the club 🐦.

Great croquet, great company and a great result – it doesn’t get much better than that! 😊🎉

🏅 Members of McIlwraith Croquet Club are delighted to celebrate the appointment of our President, Deb Camden, as a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in the King’s Birthday Honours.🏅

This well-deserved recognition acknowledges Deb’s outstanding contribution to the public relations and strategic communication profession, as well as her dedication to community service and leadership.

We are proud to have Deb leading our Club and congratulate her on this remarkable achievement. 💙

❄️ Winter? What Winter? ☀️😎

Our members turned out in force yesterday to enjoy the last glorious rays of sunshine before the cooler weather really sets in. With all four courts in action and eight players on each court, we had a full complement of 32 croquet lovers enjoying a fantastic morning of friendship, fun and competition! 🏑💙

There’s nothing quite like seeing our courts buzzing with activity and our members making the most of a beautiful day. 🌞

It really doesn’t get much better than that! 😊👏

It’s easy being green at McIlwraith 💚 thanks to grants we’ve been awarded through the Maiwar Community Grant program sponsored by our local member, Michael Berkman - Greens MP for Maiwar. 🌱

As one of the valued Patrons of our Club, Michael has always shown a keen interest in the things that make our community stronger, so it was wonderful to share the progress we’ve made with two of our latest sustainability initiatives.💚🪴

Our community herb garden is thriving and is available for both members and the wider community to enjoy — perfect for adding a little fresh flavour to culinary creations!🍃🌿 For many of our members now living in apartments, having access to a shared garden space again has been really special.

We’ve also installed two compost bins that recycle our lawn clippings and turn them into nutrient-rich fertiliser for the garden ♻️ Such a great grassroots return on effort (… pun intended!) 😄🤣

It’s amazing what community projects can achieve when people come together with a shared vision. A big thank you to Michael for his ongoing support of our Club and community 🌼🤝

🏏 Second Level Doubles… First Class Play! 🌟

Saturday morning’s Second Level Doubles Competition was a fantastic showcase of competitive croquet, teamwork and club spirit! 👏🏏

Congratulations to 🏆 Jennifer Young and Ian Leivesley, who won a strongly contested best-of-three final against Deb Camden and Straughan Briggs. Well played by both pairs in a lively and enjoyable match! 👏

Our Second Level Doubles competition, designed for players with handicaps of 9 and above, continues to be a wonderful initiative — welcoming newer players into competition while giving everyone valuable opportunities to build skills, confidence and match experience. 💪✨

With six doubles pairs taking part, the morning was filled with great play, encouragement and plenty of fun on the lawns. 🌿☀️

A big thank you to Club Captain Andrew Cole for organising the event and to our trusty referee Penny Jackson for quietly supervising play throughout the morning. 🙏😊
