THE GREEDY PIG’S PLAYS – SATURDAY 18 JULY
A massive night of racing is set at Headquarters tonight with the highlight of the night being the Group 2 South East Derby, the Group 3 Trotters Cup, the Listed Fleur De Lil Ladyship Stakes and a quality Listed Open Class event for the fast class.
We have identified the following plays for punters tonight:
RACE 2 BAND 4/2 PACE 2138M 5:37PM
I’m keen on the chances of LILAC FLASH (10) for Darren Weeks and Kylie Rassmussen. The Band 1 pacer gets into this race well and will appreciate the drop back in class after chasing home Open pacers C**t Thirty One and new track record holder Cruz last week where he did things wrong. These were his first two runs back from a long spell and he will strip fitter for this assignment tonight. There looks to be plenty of speed off the front row with Maretti, Midnight Man and Sole Ambition sure to fight for early supremacy and ensure a hot temp. With a soft run in transit, he will be finishing hard. Hardest to beat is Redcliffe Cup winner SOLE AMBITION (5) who is racing super well and as there is a $5K jackpot Quinella with UTAB, we will invest here as well.
Suggested Bet: No 10 Lilac Flash Eachway and Quinella 5 & 10
RACE 3 OPEN PACE 2138M 6:12PM
A super race to say the least and I’m keen on the chances of QLD Horse of the Year C**T THIRTY ONE (5) for leading trainer and driver Grant Dixon. The 33-time Albion Park winner is a model of consistency and was brave behind race favourite Cruz last start in a new track record over the sprint trip of 1660m. While the map suggests he is going to have to race outside Cruz once again, importantly, he is at his preferred 2138m trip. At this trip, he has won 20 from 32 starts and I just feel he will be too strong for Cruz tonight and can grip on. Kick him home, Queenslanders!
Suggested Bet: No 5 C**t Thirty One Win
RACE 6 SOUTH EAST DERBY 2138M 7:40PM
Like the FFA tonight, I’m sticking with the class runner in GOVERNOR JUJON (5). The Grant Dixon trained 3 year old c**t oozes class and his main dangers appears to be the fillies. He is a winner of 14 from just 19 starts and is a versatile type. He will be able to press forward from the draw and look to control the tempo of the race from outside the leader where there shouldn’t be any mid-race moves. He opened up at $1.60 earlier in the week and was well found by punters early. He may get back out to that quote later in the night with luck and we can get a nice return for our dollar.
Suggested Bet: Governor Jujon Win
RACE 10 QUALIFYING PACE 2138M 9:44PM
I’m going to suggest a bit of a throw at the stumps in the “Get Out Stakes” with two horses at around the $20-$26 mark in BLUE MOON RISING (3) and OYSTER STRIDE (9) each way. Put simply, although the favourite looks mighty hard to beat, these two horses will be thereabouts and offer good value in comparison to the $1.50 on offer for the favourite. Both horses are racing better than form reads and with the right run in transit, can feature on the podium.
Suggested Bet: No 3 Blue Moon Rising and No 9 Oyster Stride Each Way (1 x 2)
Be sure to check in with the Hound Team for their selections tomorrow.
Good luck punters!
