Another Reacto 5000 sold and assembled ๐Ÿ‘Œ

This oneโ€™s for a customer coming up from Tamworth for the Sunny Coast Ironman this weekend. He came across one of our ads, got in touch and I was able to source him a Reacto 5000 and get it fully assembled and ready for him.

Iโ€™ll be delivering it directly to where heโ€™s staying while heโ€™s up here and getting him set up on the bike as well.

Thatโ€™s the sort of personalised service I want to offer alongside the mechanical side of Fenix Cycles & Mechanical. Youโ€™re dealing directly with me from sourcing your bike, through to assembly, delivery and getting you set up on it.

And it doesnโ€™t have to end there. If there are changes, upgrades or modifications youโ€™d like later on, come back and have a chat and I can get you sorted.

Good luck with the Ironman this weekend. Enjoy the new bike!

A bit of work on this Giant Defy Advanced Pro over at Norman Park yesterday.

The Shimano Hollowtech 11-speed cranks had developed a crack and were covered under the Shimano recall, so I handled the warranty process for the customer and replaced the cranks.

I also did a quick bottom bracket repair while I was there.

The job itself was fairly quick, and because the customer had paid for my time to be there, I figured I'd give the bike a quick service, clean it up and check everything over before handing it back.

I always like to take care of my regulars, and I want to be happy with the bike I'm handing back and know it's ready to get back out on the road.

All sorted and back with its owner. ๐Ÿ‘Œ

Flicking through some old photos this morning looking for a few pics for a post about the day-to-day life of the Fenix Cycles van, and came across these throwbacks from my junior cycling days.

Thought I'd throw them up here too.

I spent a lot of my younger years on a bike, riding, racing and competing. Cycling was a pretty big part of my younger years and the love of riding has never really left.

For a bit of context on the bikes in these photos too, they were custom-built steel frames, made specifically for me. A little different to what you see most juniors riding around on these days.

The racing and competing days are behind me now. These days I ride for enjoyment, to keep myself moving and healthy, and I get to share it with my sons as well.

Funny looking back at these now and thinking about where it all started compared to where I am today. I'm usually the bloke working on the bikes these days rather than racing them, but bikes have been a pretty constant part of my life.

Humble beginnings, I suppose. Never really imagined back then that I'd end up doing something I enjoy for a living, working on bikes and being able to support my family doing it. I'm pretty lucky to be able to say that.

If I service it, I test ride it.

It doesnโ€™t matter what kind of bike it is. Iโ€™ve been known to ride some pretty tiny kidsโ€™ bikes up and down the street because, for me, the test ride is an important part of the service.

I need to hear the bike while itโ€™s being ridden. I need to feel how itโ€™s responding, how itโ€™s shifting and braking, and make sure everything Iโ€™ve worked on is doing exactly what it should under a rider before Iโ€™m happy to hand it back.

Ultimately, it comes down to safety. I want to know that the bike Iโ€™m giving back to you is safe to ride.

This one is a little different to what youโ€™ll usually see me test riding. Itโ€™s a carbon fibre competition handcycle belonging to a Queensland Academy of Sport para-athlete who trusts me with his regular servicing. I really enjoy working on it. Itโ€™s a different piece of equipment, different mechanics and something outside the ordinary day-to-day bikes that come through.

But the process at the end is exactly the same.

I worked on it. I test ride it. I make sure itโ€™s right before it leaves me.

I'm looking forward to working on your new machine Thomas Walvin

Three brand new bikes sold in the past few days ๐Ÿ™Œ

We're still pretty new to the bike sales side of Fenix, but I think what makes it work is that you're dealing directly with the bike mechanic from the beginning.

If you're not quite sure what you need, Ethan can help you work through what you're looking for, what will actually suit you and your budget, and then source the bike at a competitive price.

When it arrives, he's the one putting it together and setting it up properly before it goes to you. And he's still the person you're dealing with afterwards.

It's much more of a one-on-one way of buying a bike.

There are other things we can arrange too, including delivery and additional setup or mechanical work depending on what you need. Some of those are additional services, of course, but it means you can have as much or as little help as you need.

If you're looking for a new bike and you'd rather deal directly with the mechanic who's actually going to build it for you, Ethan is your man.

Every six months, one of my corporate clients puts on free bicycle servicing and safety checks for the people working across their business precinct in Brisbane City.

Itโ€™s a pretty simple setup.

Everything is organised before I arrive. Staff book their bike in for a time, ride into work as normal, drop it down to me on their way in and head upstairs to work. I look after the bike while they're working and they come back down to collect it when it's ready.

Before the day, I talk with the corporate client about what they're wanting to provide for their employees and we work out the servicing package that best suits what they're trying to achieve.

These days aren't really about major repairs.

I carry out the agreed servicing package and safety check on each bike, and when the rider comes back to collect it, I talk them through what I've found. Anything that needs further attention or replacing, I'll let them know, along with whether the bike is safe to ride.

If something needs work outside of what's included on the day, I'll explain what needs doing. They can book a time for me to come out and do the work, or take that information to their own local bike workshop. There's no expectation that the work comes back to me.

That's not really what these days are about.

It's about giving people who already ride to work an easy way to have their bikes checked regularly, picking up potential safety issues and making cycling to work that little bit easier.

There's another side to it too.

For this particular corporate client, it's also about encouraging more people to consider riding to work instead of driving. Making it easier for employees to look after their bikes is one practical way they can support that.

If your Brisbane workplace is looking at corporate bicycle servicing or employee bike safety checks, get in touch. We can have a chat about what you're wanting to offer your employees and work out a setup that suits your workplace.

If you've hired a bike from Riverlife at Kangaroo Point in 2026, there's a pretty good chance Ethan's worked on it.

Ethan looks after the maintenance on their fleet, which means working his way through the bikes, servicing them, checking for wear and making sure everything is safe before they head back out again.

Fleet bikes definitely live a different life to the bike sitting in your garage.

Lots of different riders, lots of kilometres and plenty of time out and about around Brisbane, so keeping on top of the little things matters.

Brakes, tyres, chains, gears, cables, bearings... they all get checked over and anything that's starting to wear gets picked up.

Ethan actually quite likes working on fleets. You get to know the bikes after a while.

And it's pretty cool knowing that once he's finished with them, they're heading back out to carry someone else around Brisbane.

09/08/2026

Pretty packed week ahead for Ethan, including a decent corporate job with around 30โ€“40 bikes needing servicing, so the van got its usual clean out today ready to get back into it tomorrow.

Tools sorted. Van clean. Everything back where it belongs.

It probably won't stay looking this shiny for long...

And if you're a Brisbane business with a fleet of bikes, this is something we do too. We can come to you and take care of servicing and repairs across the fleet.

Ethan can also assess what you've got and, where bikes are no longer worth putting more money into, help with replacement options and quotes.

For tonight though... the van is clean.

Let's see how long that lasts.

โ€œWhy wonโ€™t you just do part of the job?โ€

Fair question โ€” and Iโ€™ll always explain it upfront.

If Iโ€™m working on your bike, Iโ€™m responsible for the outcome.

That means I need to know the whole bike is functioning as it should โ€” not just one part of it.

Sometimes Iโ€™ll point out other issues that need attention. Not to upsell โ€” but because they directly affect how the bike rides and how safe it is.

If those things are left as they are, thereโ€™s a good chance something wonโ€™t feel rightโ€ฆ or wonโ€™t work properly.

And from your side, it just feels like the bike โ€œwasnโ€™t fixed.โ€

From my side, Iโ€™ve been asked to stand behind a job that wasnโ€™t completed properly.

Thatโ€™s why I donโ€™t do half jobs.

If I take it on, I do it properly.

And if something Iโ€™ve worked on isnโ€™t right โ€” Iโ€™ll own it and sort it.

But I wonโ€™t put my name to a bike where I know there are outstanding issues that will affect the result and more importantly โ€” your safety.

Thatโ€™s not how I work, and itโ€™s not fair on either of us.

If you want it done properly โ€” Iโ€™m all in ๐Ÿ‘
