Savasana might look like “just lying down,” but it is one of the most important parts of the practice.
After moving through postures, breath, effort, focus and sensation, Savasana gives the body time to settle and absorb the effects of the class.
It allows the nervous system to downshift, the breath to soften, the heart rate to steady, and the muscles to release any unnecessary holding.
For many of us, stillness can feel surprisingly hard. We are so used to doing, thinking, rushing and planning that being asked to simply rest can feel uncomfortable at first. That is part of the practice too.
Savasana gives us a chance to pause without needing to fix, achieve, stretch further, hold longer, or perform.
It is a moment of integration. A space where the body can process the movement, the mind can quieten, and the practice can land.
So next time you’re tempted to pack up early, stay for the rest.
The stillness matters.
