Apparently if youāre nervous on a motorcycle, thereās āsomething wrong with youā and you have āno business being on a bike.ā
Yeah⦠no.
This is EXACTLY the kind of attitude towards beginners that I want to push back against.
Should an experienced rider be riding around terrified every single time they get on their bike? No.
Should you recognise when fear has become so overwhelming that youāre no longer riding safely? Absolutely.
But being scared when youāre NEW?
Completely fu***ng normal.
Youāre sitting on a machine youāre still learning to control, surrounded by cars, trying to remember clutch, throttle, gears, brakes, road positioning, head checks, corners and approximately 47 other things at once.
Of course some people are scared.
The answer isnāt āthereās something wrong with you, get off the bikeā
The answer is training.
Doing the same thing over and over until one day you realise the thing that used to scare you doesnāt anymore.
Thatās how confidence is built.
And I really donāt want new riders looking at experienced riders and thinking everyone else was magically confident from day one.
You are allowed to be a beginner, be nervous and take longer than somebody else.
Just keep learning, respect the fear when itās telling you youāre outside your current ability, and build your skills one ride at a time.
We need more people helping beginners become good riders, not telling them they donāt belong here.
