2024 SSAA Brisbane Fly United Invitational Championships.
Did we have food, fun and fly hits? Yes, yes we did!
In the early hours of Saturday morning the rain could be heard on the roof. A cool southerly breeze with light rain greeted us at the SSAA Brisbane range in the morning.
Weigh in done, Match Director Vince’s briefing out the way, detail one was called to the line. The breeze was just strong enough to blow the light rain in under the covered firing line. Everything on the benches ready to go was now a little damp… a good reminder that there was some breeze.
The same for all, so under way we were… until Tracey started the Butter Chicken and rice @ about 9:30am. Well, distracted some became… Mitch Calcutt lost his ability to concentrate on anything bar the food. Yes, it WAS THAT GOOD!
With the day slightly improving as we headed to HG Class after a break for an early lunch and gear clean etc… and the Butter Chicken finished off. All could now get back to concentrating on hitting fly’s. The scores very much improved with the settling of the rain and the breeze swinging a little more SSE.
With all CF targets scored, LG and HG winners decide and a hint at who was in the hunt for the “2024 Vince Vaina Triple Crown 3 Gun Grand Cup”, we retired for the night for drinks and discussion on all things Fly.
Sunday was a stunning morning. The rain was gone, the breeze was light to medium giving a green tail, it was nice and cool. Some will say perfect conditions, some will say not so! But by 11am we had a Rimfire Top Gun Champion and now just the wait to let the computer nerds press the right keys to sort the Multi Guns.
Presentations under way, and sponsors handing out the prizes to those who won. I believe we can all say we had a lot of fun. For the nitty gritty written not so witty, in a pdf form that is very pretty. Please head over to www.Flyshooter.com.au for all the scores and winners’ details.

All of a sudden … mirage steps in ! Never lets you down ! It was certainly a tricky day at Belmont! Fantastic shooting goes to Vince Vaina , Chris McMahon & Adam Richards , all shared WINS in Light Gun !
The honours go to the Kaizen Tactical team leader, Mark Lacey! Great shooting Mark ! You’re on top of your game ! Mark won all possible in Heavy Gun! Also Winning the first CFire Pinnacle Patch for a Smallest Group under 1.25inches ! NOTE ... Mark also has beaten the annual Smallest Group in HG for the 2023 year !

Top Gun at 500m for August goes to Mark ( Kaizen) Lacey !

Just a perfect night for Rimfire Fly !

Best Target , annual range record Broken! Highest Total Score, annual range record broken ! Mitch Calcutt and Adam Richards running 2nd and 3rd in total points ! Team Kaizen without their leader ! There were 3 small groups 1.25 and under! Great shooting!

Happy to say , Vince Vaina , won all possible in near perfect weather conditions!

KAIZEN team member, bought his ‘A’ game with him , ADAM RICHARDS with his display of , SMALLEST GROUP & BEST TARGET in LG ! Fantastic shooting ADAM !

Guess who’s back ?! Yes he is certainly back ! Robert Jackson , showed all the fly shooters how it’s done in typical Belmont conditions! Robert’s tally for the match: Winner in Light Gun , Heavy Gun & Combined LG HG as well ! Best Target in HEAVY GUN ! Top Gun for the match ! Well shot Robert! Let’s hope you haven’t used up all your winning shots !? Save some for the Invitational Shoot next weekend!!!

Kaizen, team members, Dave Richards and Phil Jones managed to shoot , Smallest Groups and Best Target in both classes! Make sure you both on yr ‘A’ game next weekend!

MITCH ( wildcat) CALCUTT, certainly picked the calm condition on the B target to achieve, a phenomenal, SMALLEST GROUP of .386 inch and also BEST TARGET as well ! Very hard to beat Mitch , impressive shooting as always !

The next exciting RIMFIRE shoot , will be the Fly United , INVITATIONAL SHOOT , SUN 30th JULY 2023.
