SEQ Sumo fam heads up!

Kitanogaman Beya will be taking a break in 2025.

Young family life and managing my own commitments and goals in Judo and BJJ means that running regular Keiko is just not feasible at this stage.

Fear not, however, Joel Kindred has got a clay dohyo out in Cedar Vale and will be running sparring sessions in the near future!

This isn't the end, I am still open to offer advice or critique competition footage so feel free to reach out should you wish.

There are also still long-term plans to have a more permanent and convenient facility in the future as well as a sumo-related project on the boil!

Finally, big thanks to Shin-Gi-Tai Judo Club for graciously hosting our sessions, should Cedar Vale be a bit too far of a drive I would definitely recommend chucking a gi on instead to get some training in.

If you have seen my highlight reel you would notice how many victories came from judo techniques!

Kitanogaman Beya's lovable larrikin Joel Kindred has snagged a silver in the Scottish Sumo Open! His tenacious style also won him the fighting spirit prize! Congratulations Joel🏆

Awesome results from the Australian Sumo Federation Oceania championships last Sunday from the Qld contingent.

Spectacular sumo on display from Tony taking a double gold in openweight and light-heavy weight in his first sumo competition!

Both Angus Jell and Waylon Wolfenden performed solidly, building experience with an eye on medals next year.

Joel Kindred coming in underdone with an injury plagued preparation relied on his experience to snag the silver in lightweight.

Qld also managed to come away with 3rd in the teams event.

Really proud of the lads efforts and hopefully we send a bigger team next year!

Shoutout also to Shin-Gi-Tai Judo Club who graciously allow us to wrassle on their tatami.

The International Sumo Federation is running referee courses this month.

Coach Vito Bazzana has refereed before internationally and has confirmed there is no better seat in the house!

Let me know if you are keen and I'll pass your details.

Without referees we can't compete, so please consider it 😊
