Hi Dragons,
We have some important news to share regarding the upcoming cricket season.
Council are closing all of our grounds at Dendy Park for the whole season to do irrigation works. There will be temporary fencing surrounding the whole of Dendy lower and they will be digging up the ground as they go.
This means we will not be playing at Dendy Park this season.
While this is not great news in the short term, we have been assured that there will be great benefits to the condition of Dendy Park after this season.
In answer to some of the questions weโre sure you have:
โข All teams (mens, womens and juniors) will have other permanent home grounds to play at during the season. These will all be within Bayside Council
โข At this stage we donโt know exactly where each team will be playing, other than the mens 1st and 2nd XI will be at Shipston Reserve in Cheltenham. The mens 3rd XI will be playing on synthetic for this season only
โข We will have full access to the cricket nets, the pavilion and the changerooms for the whole season as normal
โข We are not sure where we will do fielding training at this stage. It will either be a section of Dendy Park that is not fenced off, or on the athletics oval. We probably wonโt know this for sure until the temporary fencing goes up.
โข We did ask about doing the work in stages across a few seasons so that part of Dendy could remain open. Unfortunately it is not feasible logistically, financially or to get the best results.
Overall we are confident we will be able to make this work. There are obviously more logistics to work out as we get closer to the season but there wonโt be anything thatโs too difficult as long as everyone helps out!
From a club perspective this is going to make things a bit more difficult financially. We are hopeful the impact wonโt be too big and we have some buffer given a successful past couple of seasons. However, we would like to take the opportunity to encourage a couple of things:
โข Please make the effort to attend social events this season. Itโs a really important part of making the club a fun place to be and also contributing to our financial sustainability
โข If you have a business or know someone who has a business who would be willing to sponsor the club, we would love to hear from you!
If you have further questions about the works, sponsorship or anything else at the club, please contact Ross Stewart (president) on 0402 906 312 or Andrew Lasky (vice-president) on 0412 053 303.
See you soon at pre-season training!
