Bright Bowls Club Hosts Popular Tournament
Bowlers from across the North East once again gathered at Bright Bowls Club for the much-loved Geoff Jones Memorial Day Tournament on Sunday, 12th April.
The Bright Bowls Club has once again brought energy and excitement to the community by hosting its popular tournament for the fourth consecutive year. What started as a modest local competition has clearly grown into a much-anticipated annual event, drawing participants and spectators from across the region. This year’s tournament continued the tradition of friendly competition and a welcoming atmosphere.
Despite hopes of having the newly renovated Green No. 1 ready in time for the day, unforeseen circumstances beyond the workers’ control meant this wasn’t possible. However, plans are firmly in place to have the green ready for next year, which will allow for even more players to be accommodated.
It was still a fantastic day, with 14 teams (42 players) competing across four games of two-bowl triples. The event delivered a high standard of competition, complemented by a vibrant and social atmosphere enjoyed by all throughout the day.
Anthony Jones spoke on behalf of the Jones family, thanking participating teams from Chiltern (2), Dederang, Myrtleford (2), Milawa, Swanpool, Seymour (2), Wangaratta, Wodonga, Yarrawonga, and of course Bright (2) for making the day such a success. He also expressed gratitude to Bright Bowls Club for hosting the event in honour of his father, Geoff Jones, noting Geoff’s deep love of the club’s social spirit.
Geoff had a significant involvement with the club, joining in 2000. He served as President for two terms (2005/06 and 2006/07), was an accredited coach from 2009 to 2017, and contributed in many other roles. His passion was always to encourage new bowlers to enjoy the game.
The club was delighted to welcome Christine Jones, along with her daughter Sarah and son Anthony, to the day. Christine had the honour of presenting prize money to the winners, with 21 bowlers receiving cash prizes.
