Bright v Whorouly

Get your popcorn ready for this one. The Ovens Valley rivals are friends on the cricket field but are undoubtedly foes during winter - and it is genuine.

Bright got the better of the two way back on Easter Saturday and Whorouly had their turn at home in Round 19 by 14 points, but the most recent meeting was a finals classic that had it all. So where will the game be won and lost?

THE KEY TALLS
No prizes for guessing - it’s the King, Michael Newton (95 goals) going head to head with the heir apparent Luke Quirk (77). Both kicked five goals in their most recent final and that will be the target for both tomorrow - and it could even earn you a best on ground medallion. Just ask Cooper Thomason!

THE RUNNING BACKS
Two players no doubt loving the inclusion of Premier Data statistics during the finals series, OKFNL Team of the Year defenders Michael Elliott and Max Scott have elevated their games to new heights in the last month. They both intercept better than most and drive their team forward with metres gained thanks to their booming right boots. Stopping their effectiveness could be the difference between a medal or despair.

THE CAPTAINS
Two heart and soul players for their squads. Sam Dalbosco and Corey Southern are midfielders that will earn every possession and do anything for their team. Can they push forward and hit the scoreboard?

THE POWER MIDS
Jessie Smith and Clay Dillon probably won’t match up on each other at all, but they will run all day, get to every contest and then try to get out of every contest. These two can post big numbers on their day. Will Harry Jamieson go to Smith again or will coach Michael Quirk go with a different look?

THE CREATORS
This is where it gets really interesting. The ambidextrous Riley Bacon has the competition’s best opposite foot and hits targets for fun. Whorouly’s best young player Harvey Dodgshun has been a revelation this season at the Den and this could be the start of a career with higher honours. Both can and probably need to kick multiples for their side to get the win.

My tip? Get to WJ Findlay Oval and do not miss a minute of the action!

Looking for a nice, gentle game of netball to watch on a sunny Saturday afternoon? This is not it!

These two teams have played out a couple of thrillers throughout the year and you can’t see this being any different. It’s impossible to ignore Bright’s perfect season to date, which obviously means that they’ve had the recent edge over their opponents. Tracy Fitzpatrick and Mia Lynch will certainly leave it all on the court and it will be hard to restrict their influence, while the squad’s big-game experience will be telling.

But the Bombers have the ability to crank up the heat when required and their superior percentage has to be a consideration. Watch out for Chloe Rekers and Charli Purcell strutting their stuff - if these two can dominate at either end then we’re in for one proper grand final.

The moment we’ve been working towards all season. The early mornings, the cold nights, the trainings, the wins, the losses, the laughs, the tears, the sacrifices and every single moment in between have all led us here. 💙🤍

Tomorrow, two of our teams step onto the biggest stage of the year - not just to play a game, but to represent each other, our club, our families and everyone who has stood beside us along the way.
